Bowl Blanks

This is kind of a mix between the trade and the casual conversation sections, so i just posted it here. I'm going on a road trip this weekend to a good friend who has a bunch of winter fall down on his property that he wants out of there before it piles up again this winter. From what ive heard, he has a 6 foot diameter box elder tree with 80 percent of the trunk being covered in burls, and one in particular sticking a foot or 2 out of the trunk. im going to chainsaw a bunch of it up for me for bowls and see if i cant get some flaming burly pen blanks out of it. :biggrin: there are also about 20 more full trees, and a pile of fallen limbs I'm going to sort through. I was just wandering if anyone would be interested in some bowl blanks or wood of any sort that they would want to do a trade or something for. I'm fine bringing some wood back with me for others but i don't want to bring back a bunch that will just fill up my shop... Thanks!

Hope you get some great flame in the box elder.... I picked up a log last spring that I found on the side of the road... no burls, but the red flame through the log was spectacular... about a 10' x 2' log just laying on the side of the road.... took me all of about 3 hours to cut it and load in my truck... good thing I had my 280 lbs step son with me to help keep the front end of the truck down occasionally when we need steering control on the curves. My little Ranger was riding low in the tail with all that wood.

So here's the 1st part of the week-long venture. i focused mostly on the burls so as not to mess them up when getting the bowls... if anyone would like whole burl caps, let me know because im planning on cutting them into pen blanks tonight in his shop... i dont think any of the caps are big enough for more than a dish or very small bowl but if anyone is into ww casting or any of the equivalent, pm me asap. also, the bowl blanks are decent., i didnt get very much red in them but pm me if you want some... when you pm me, give me specific sizes you wanted for the blanks. i cant do anything really big due to shipping but get ahold of me to be sure. all i have is the two sections right now for bowl blanks but when i go out again this weekend, ill stock up.
