Book Pens to go to their Authors

I made a few rollerball pens for my favorite authors that I will send as a sort of fan mail/thank you for writing great books. The blanks were made from epoxied books, the first book I read from each author.

First is a black titanium Jr. Citizen made with the book "Storm Front" by Jim Butcher.

Second is antique brass Jr. George made with "Mistborn" by Brandon Sanderson.

Third is chrome/gold Kojent made with "Promise of Blood" by Brian McClellan.

I love the pens and the idea. Did you wrap the tube with multiple pages? Or one page rolled over itself? It's looks like Greek or Sanskrit or some other alphabet I don't know but it's cool that you can see that's it's actual text. Did you try other versions such as a single layer of legible type? Love the pen and sentiment for the authors.

I just painted the pages with epoxy and put a weight on top to keep it pressed together. The pages are stacked as they normally would be.

Some pics of the last one I did. I had issue with tearout anywhere I didn't use enough epoxy. To counter that, I just used thin CA between passes to psuedo-stabilize the material.

I's fantasy with black powder rifles. Interesting magic systems involved. The first one is probably the least interesting for me to read through. The rest of his books I found to be more immersive.

Glad I could provide a new author to look into.

These are wonderful!! I love how the epoxy makes the pages a bit translucent, giving some really nice depth and texture to the blanks. Your authors should love them!

I actually went with an extra thick layer of CA because of that exact reason. A thinner layer gave the texture some pop, but I love the magnification a thicker layers seems to give.

-> How do you figure out where to send the pens? You want to be sure that they get to the authors and not diverted or stolen by someone along the way.

With Jim Butcher and Brandon Sanderson, they have addresses to send fan mail where you will get a response. Hopefully I can trust the response to be theirs.

Brian McClellan actually doesn't like receiving mail, so I will have to email him about what I am doing and ask if I can send his pen to his agent.
