I have a new neighbor that moved into the area by the pen store.
He strolls down the wash behind the store, then he has to come out of the wash right next to the store and cross the parking lot to get to the wash across the way. I have been trying to get a picture of this guy for a week, well finally he decieded to take a rest today and must have been pretty tired, becuase he just laid there and let me snap away. :) Arizona Bobcat [8D]

When we first moved to Tucson back in '94 there was a bobcat that lived near our apartment on the southwest side to Tucson... it was beginning to build up out that way, but he seemed to have adapted okay.. unfortunately, someone went "hunting" with their automobile and killed him one day.. sad to see a beautiful animal as road kill.

That's pretty cool Anthony! I hope he doesn't get hit by a car.[:0] We have some small animal traps that we have used to relocate Bobcats further out. If the city wants something done, let me know. I'ld hate to see it get run over.

No fear of him getting run over, he just goes between wash to wash. My parking lot is the only thing he goes threw to get there, it is pretty rural by the store. I think he was pretty exhasted that day. Usually when I spot him, he bolts through the olianders, must have been a touch of the heat, it gets us all [8D] A couple of the tenants in the shops bring their little dogs to work with them, I am afraid those guys need to worry, as they would make a tastey lunch. [:0]

Do you have something against this animal?[V]

If he is living around civilization, you can bet he is decimating the song bird population. Probably killing domestic cats; tearing into garbage; killing useful small insect eating animals and snakes; eating quail and turkey eggs and new hatchlings. If I thought on it for a while, I could come up with a dozen more reasons why he should be .22 fodder.

Probably killing domestic cats;(not if the cat owners are contolling their pets - if you contend that cats should be allowed to "Wander - it's in their wild nature" then they should also defend themselves. IF you declaw them, keep them in the house and clean up after them. tearing into garbage (Which would, otherwise, be taken to the dump where it can smell up the neighborhood) killing useful small insect eating animals and snakes; eating quail (are there Quail in Arizona???) and turkey eggs (Do we have a turkey shortage??? at 68 cents a pound in the grocery store, it is not reflected here) and new hatchlings. If I thought on it for a while, I could come up with a dozen more reasons why he should be .22 fodder.

Probably want to reflect on it. But, it does come into the "politics and religion area", I believe - since hunting is a religion in Wisconsin.

Oh, I'm not against hunting -- Just think this line of logic shows room for improvement.:D:D:D

IF THIS cat is going into people's homes and stealing their dogs and chickens for food, THEN, it needs to be controlled. IF it walks across the road and that's it's only crime, death is a little severe.

I hunt, and used to trap, but I have to agree with Ed, When I was a kid in Nevada we used to get a bounty on Mountain Lions, I killed quit a few out around Pahrump, Now I feed squirrels and cardinals, and a few deer, I wish I had never shot any of those cats..

Has he moved next to civilization, or has civilization(whatever THAT is) moved next to him. AS for decimating the songbird population-nature calls it population control and I doubt one bobcat will make songbirds, or any other small animal go extinct. So long as it's leaving people alone, leave it alone. There is no reason it can't coexist with humans.

Okay for the record, this is a picture of a bobcat, this bobcat is of no denomination, he is not going to be shot or hit by a car. He is just my new buddy and we have an understanding, he can eat whatever he wants as long as he doesn't bite me :D

Regretably if he did bite you, the "Authorities"(rat bastards) would put him down for being a danger to the population.

That cat is one awesome animal! you are very lucky to have the new neighbor! As far as the 22 goes, I was taught by my grandparents to never shoot anything you cannot or will not eat, and in my book I would not eat the bobcat but would rather see it run wild, I would like him to be my neighbor (maybe keep my in shop mouse population down?) nuff said have a great day Howard

You mean he's an "independent" bobcat?:D

I got to say that I don't like cats at all, but they were here long before we were and we are the ones that are trespassing and infringing on their land. We build homes outside of the city so we can be close to nature and then all we want to do is destroy whatever doesn't fit into our sense of the perfect enviroment. If you really want to go shoot something, you can always go to the range and spend a few hours taking target practice. If that isn't enough excitement for you, go after the cat, but give it a fair chance and use a knife, make it a fair fight. Anthony, I hope that cat and you can bond and never have a problem, even though I don't like them, that is a nice looking cat.

I'm with Johnnie. Why in Hell anyone would want to shoot an animal like this is beyond my comprehension. If I was still living in the woods and it was killing my chickens I likely would feel differently. But to want to shoot it for fulfulling its purpose in this world is reprehensible.

Anthony, that is way,way too cool and anyone that thinks he needs to bring his 22 to an animal that only walks across a parking lot from wash to wash is just trying to stop all the harm being done to the parking lot by the cat;). Can't belive anyone would harm it.

I do believe he and his descendents were there way long BEFORE any human came to the land.

I had a neighbor once that shot every Brown Thrasher (GA state bird) that landed in his trees. He was quite surprised when the State Police showed up at his door and arrested him. I seem to remember the penalty was a $5000.00 fine.

Never did like that fool man. Always wished he shot at me or my pets just one time! ;)
