Holy cow these came out AMAZING!!!

I've been experimenting with new pigment sources for cactus juice and I think I've found a winner!

All I did to the blanks after curing was sand them flat on my disc sander, clean them off with some denatured alcohol, and wipe some CA on to bring out the finished color.

Awesome looking blanks. Are your blanks for sale? Link? Great work.

Thanks! As of right now I'm still testing the pigments so I won't be selling any of these until I know the results are tried and true.

Wow! I'd buy those. Can't wait to see what they look like turned and finished. Planning any other colors in your try-outs?

Thanks! I'm hoping to turn the smaller blank today for a sierra. I actually am trying some other colors now that I know how these came out. I wasn't sure the pigment was cactus juice compatible so I wanted to do a small batch to start with. Today I might try some double dyed blanks with this red and a new pitch black. Plus some solid black to see just how dark it will be. I have a feeling it won't be the grayish color you get with all the other dyes.

I don't know, if you got that deep of a red, black might come out almost a midnight color, not gray. Curious about the intensity of a blue you'll get out of the new stuff. Love to see the double dyed colors you come u p with. Planning on selling the blanks once you get your formula and capabilities of the new pigment down?

can you tell us what system or process you are using to stabilize these with your special recipe of cactus juice.?
I'm not asking for your secret recipe, just wondered what your stabilizing these in meaning plastic is a system you bought from a store?
I've been thinking about finding a way to stabilize some of my box elder and other woods. Yours look amazing!

What if the special recipe is secret?:biggrin: I'm using cactus juice as the stabilizing resin. The pigment is something I'm experimenting with. If you're looking to do your own stabilizing check out www.turntex.com for everything needed to get started.

Boy oh boy are those ever red! I would almost not believe those started out as wood!

They sure are! I'll have to take a before and after shot with an unstabilized blank. This stuff is super blonde to start with.

I'd like some of those along with some forest green ones.
Before Christmas gets too close.

I bet! I made some green for someone else recently. They came out really nice. I just wish I could find a good supply of this wood. I only had a dozen or so to start with!

As usual your colors are amazing. Like others, can't wait to see new colors and something turned with that great new red.

Thanks again Everyone! I've got a sierra turned out of the smaller blank. It came out really nice. I hope to post a pic tomorrow for everyone to check out.

Plus I have the blanks done in black cured and done soaking. I took them to the disc sander and cleaned them up like these red ones. Surprising results is all I'll say for tonight. You'll see what I mean tomorrow...

Should have stuffed some in that mostly empty box I got yesterday.

I think I can turn Chrissy loose on segmenting something up . Just let me know what you have in mind.
