The other day Carl (fernhills) posted a picture of a beautiful cigar pen, the title of the post was "Blonde".

I had sent the blank to Carl a while back and said it was "Blonde bloodwood". (Cav and Chris, stop laughing[)]) I had purchased a load of bloodwood some time ago and the piece I got the blank from was in there. So although it looked different I ASSUMED (I know[:I]) that it was in fact light colored bloodwood.
Cav and Chris posted the following:
Cav; "Nice work, Carl. Now, can I interest you in some Red Yellowheart, which is also quite rare?"
Chris; "Must be from an albino bloodwood tree... "
Sensing that Cav and Carl had doubt that the wood was in fact bloodwood I went back to my supplier with a photo of the piece and asked for clarification. Well, my supplier came back and identified that block as Quina [:0][:0] not bloodwood.
So, Carl sorry I misinformed you, the blank I sent you was Quina NOT bloodwood. And to Cav and Chris; Thankyou for helping me seek the truth
Quina "Myroxylon poruiferum" Also known as Argentine Sandlewood, Incienso or Balsamo. Heartwood color is deep red, sometimes with purple highlights and high natural luster. Spicy scent, a source of balsam used in perfumes. Good in-use stability, but can be difficult to machine due to interlocked grain. Very decay resistant.
Anybody interested in Quina blanks??[}]
