Blank from copper tubing?

I haven't done my homework as to ID and OD but wondering if anyone here has made a blank from copper tubing from the hardware store? If so, what were some things you encountered as weight, etc.? I was looking at Don Ward's book on Slimlines where he uses a certain size aluminum arrow for pens.
