I've been asked for a pen that looks like black marble with blue veins.

I'm thinking black painted tubes, uncolored PR, blue PearlX added after the PR has been mixed and set for a few minutes. Am I on the right track?

Nobody? :(

Well, I tried it with Spring green, but I think I mixed it too much.

When my dad was making synthetic marble (trophy bases and such) he used a
styrene resin and powdered marble. He got his base color with dyes and then mixed
a separate smaller batch for the veining color. He poured the smaller batch into the
larger one, drizzling it over the base in a mixing container. he didn't mix it though.

Then, he poured the two into the mold. As you pour, the veining color is sitting on
the top, and they both come out together and as they hit the mold, they swirl a
little bit just from the motion of pouring. This gave it a natural looking vein that looked
just like real marble (most of the time) but he said it took a LOT of trial and error to
find the right colors and ratios.

I wish he could find his old recipes...

You could try pouring the black with pearlx to get the shimmer and color change, and then break it in a vise, to leave large chunks enough to put back in the mold and pour a blue in the breaks to give it the veins. Just a thought Ive been waiting to try out myself.

Thanks all. Some interesting ideas to try. He isn't too picky, trusting to my judgement instead. Which, of course, means I'll try 5 times as hard. I think he knows that. heh
