I like your first picture with the blank on the lathe. It shows something that caused a post or two in the long past inquiring about why they had streaks in their finish. Paduk, Padauk, (Or other spellings) has large cells visible to the naked eye and without realizing it, a few people thought they had sanding scratches on their wood under the finish. My first CAed pen was Padauk and one of the first things I noticed was its cellular grain structure.
