I need help from you guys. I know this is a pen site, but I am sure someone can help me. I offered to make my girlfriends mom a decorative birdhouse for her garden. The problem was, she wanted it like one she saw in a catalog that was 8 sided. I got the actual house done. I did the 22 1/2 d cuts and all, but now I am having trouble with the roof.. What is the best way to roof this house? It has to flow with the shape of an octagon. What do I do?
Please help, I need to have this done before Christmas Eve, and I am falling way behind.

Thanks
Brian

Thanks everyone for the ideas. I did in fact figure it out.... I simply ordered one from gardners supply. LOL.. I will take that one apart and make a template for future reference..

Compound cuts are real tough. You would first have to decide the pitch of the roof. If I were you, I would turn something on the lathe. After it is turned, then maybe use a small gouge carving chisel with downward stroke to add some flowing detail.
Good Luck

Don't know what the catalog looked like. But if you are going to make it come to a point in the center than you need to make stave cuts. There is a formula but will have to look on my old computer for it if it is still on there. That thing is a mess.
