On a chance today I called the 1-877 number and got some weird message so I called the other number 1-325-4801070 and asked if I was talking to BOW supply and he responded yes. The man that answered the phone and said I can order from him and he would send me a paypal invoice. Havent a bunch of members been ripped off by this outfit? My self I wont chance on ordering. But you members that got ripped off can call this fellow and try to get your money back or your orders. What you tou think?

Post the name of the vendor you have questions about. That way the rest of us will not have to waste money trying to call him/them to see which one you are asking about. ;)

I dont want any pen blanks. I need some slabs and the only place that sells slabs that I know of is .http://www.bethlehemolivewood.net/. On May 14 there was a post talking about getting no responses about present and past orders at that time from a business in Texas that sells BOW.
There was no mention of what business it was, only that it was located in Texas so i thought I would let those whom had problems with the business in Texas know that in case this is the business that they had problems with that the phone line is now working.

The only 'problem' with them is the often long time it takes to get your stuff. 1-3 months is not unheard of. It is coming from Israel after all. A common complaint I've heard is that once they have your money, they stop responding to your emails. However, eventually your wood will come, and I was not disappointed with my order, and I've heard others say the same thing. So... if you're not in a hurry, they really do have some great wood.

If you are willing to settle for mediterranean or middle eastern olive wood It should be possible to find a slab at one of the exotic wood dealers for only a little more than an arm and a leg. If it has to be from Bethlehem then the price is likely to take your breath away. Olive trees don't grow very big in that area. Most of the wood is harvested so as to keep the trees alive. You can't do that for a slab or significant turning blank.

I was waiting since last oct. for a shipment. Last month I told them to keep it and my money since I wasn't getting anything anyways. I think Manny can help you get some BOW, He saved the season for me last year.

That's kind of a rude and derisive response. The performance of the vendor in question should give you a big hint. I do happen to have family there as well.

Do you have any basis for your suspicion or is this purely a speculative and derisive comment?

Frankly, if it was a rude and derisive response, it was in response to a rude and derisive statement.

I have only ordered from them once, I received my blanks in about 3 weeks, it was very nice, and it was mailed from Israel! It came with a nice certificate of authenticity, but as has been suggested it could have been harvested elsewhere.
Some times you just have to take a leap of faith.

Actually, it was simply a remark. Since I wasn't deriding anyone it was a bit hard to describe it as derisive. I thought I was being friendly. Apparently your definition of casual doesn't include that.

Frankly, if it was a rude and derisive response, it was in response to a rude and derisive statement.

Before you run your mouth, you might want to make sure you know what you are talking about. You might want to offer some first hand information instead of making meaningless, baseless, speculative, derisive comments. A good friend of mine from this forum actually visited Diane and Ghasen a couple of years ago at their home and shop in Bethlehem. Read all about it here. http://www.penturners.org/forum/topic.asp?ARCHIVE=true&TOPIC_ID=2063&whichpage=1#13588

A wonderful friend of mine likes to use the saying "quit screwing up my karma" [8D]

There is a lot of wasted energy going on here that serves no purpose. Why don't we all just enjoy a good scotch and look for enlightenment.[^]

Interesting how this forum has changed over the years! I just read the thread that Lou posted and something hit me immediately, everyone was more relaxed and got along back in ’04!

The posts were more along the lines of… “It’s been a while, can’t wait for my goodies to arrive, love the smell of that stuff!â€.

Today it’s more like… “%&*#&$@ low life bums, it’s been forever waiting on my order, I think these people are jerks trying to cheat me, I wouldn’t trust them farther than I can throw themâ€

Sad to see such a change![V]

George that is so true. I keep wondering could it be the fact this hobby has exploded over the past couple years. Just look at the growth on this site alone. As the site says the trees are pruned and not cut down.

marcruby I do not know how you come across the basis of your comment. If you can prove it as a fact then ok but if your are just making a comment like that just to make a comment, it is wrong. Even in "casual" conversations one should not say something like that they cannot back up.

I hope you're happy with that wonderful display of ego. I've visited Israel a number of times, I don't need to rely on 'friends.' And I didn't accuse or deride anyone, but don't let that keep you from ranting. So I don't understand why you are all wrapped up in defending your friends. Please go abuse someone else. I've expressed my opinion and I stand behind it. I don't need to justify it to you. The shame of this is that I admire many of your pens.

With all due respect,

Marc

Marc you are kidding right. You made a one line comment that had no backing, no support and no real reason to even be posted except to slander Bethlehemolivewood. Someone post asking for proof and you still have not proven that the wood does not come from there, except to say the performance of the vendor.

As to Lou's ego, he is an outstanding guy who in my opinion has a great personality and his ego is just fine. Also I believe you are getting to the point of "attacking" another member here for just questioning your unsupported comment. Would it not have been easier to just say sorry or post some real proof.

Marc's original comment was not directed toward anyone in particular. It may have been in a thread about someone in particular, but his comment was pretty general. Construe his comment however you like, but if you have to post half a page trying to prove that it was dirisive toward Bethlehemolivewood, you're taking great pain to take offense to something that wasn't meant as offensive. No one bothered to find out whether he was making that comment about Bethlehemolivewood or not. I'm sure I'll get flamed for coming to Marc's defense, but around here lately, I'll take that as a compliment. Can you really blame someone for getting defensive when they're the brunt of some extremely harsh posts? Come now. You're all adults, how do you react when you're called out like that publicly? Whether it's deserved or not, we all react that way when we're in a similar situation.

FACT: Much of our society is based on defending our friends. Generally, we know more about our friends than people who are not our friends. I hope someday to be counted on Lou's list of friends, I'm probably somewhere on the acquaintance list right now. What I know of him (other than a rather unfortunate photograph) is that he is a very knowledgeable, skilled craftsman with a wide variety of interests, many of which overlap areas I am interested in as well. His depth of knowledge in many of these areas is impressive. This is the basis of starting a "friendship". I respect his opinions and abilities as he has proven both to be valuable in the past. I also know that he does not NEED my help in this battle of wits.

FACT: The title of this thread is Bethlehem olive wood supply</u>, therefore, a slam against the source or documentation of this product would rightly be considered as a derisive comment about BOW Supply.

FACT: I have ordered from BOW Supply several times, and learned that they are not the place to order from if you need it tomorrow. They are the place to order if you want a top quality product at a reasonable price.

FACT: Over the past year and a half, as I have moved from newby to somewhat skilled, I have formed many "opinions" about various members, generally based on their presentation and display of knowledge about the subject being discussed. Many are on my "LISTEN UP" list where I know that there may be something of value being said, some bit of info or knowledge being passed along. Some of these members have thousands of posts, some of them only a few. There are also a few members on my "WHATEVER" list where I do not expect much, and am seldom disappointed in my expectations.

OPINION: I am disappointed when a broad, and yes, derisive, comment is made against anyone, be it a person or company. I am more disappointed when the defense of that statement becomes an attack against others rather than a defense of the presented "opinion". If you have something to defend your position with, use it. If you don't, admit it and move on.

FACT: Respect, whether of your knowledge, abilities or opinions, is earned here as it is in most places, it cannot be demanded.

Now, if everyone is cleaned up from the Scotch or Bourbon or whatever, head for the shop, relax and make some pens.

Lou thanks for adding that link. It was what I was thinking of as I read this thread as well. I don't even have to read the article again as I read it when it came out. As for the forum being friendlier. maybe it was. it has grown alot and with size comes a few unwanted things. but it is still the friendliest place I know of. the whole idea of a distributor in the US was to address the three month wait problem. I also noticed the demand went through the roof as some of those issues got resolved, at least temporarily.
last I knew of you can order BOW from the major suppliers now as well.
