Every year I usually get asked to make 3 or 4 dozen pens for a Scout that is raising money for a Eagle Scout project. They usually offer to pay for the kits and wood, but I always turn down the offer. The cause is just too good not to support them.

But in an attempt to save some money, and therefore make the odds of my wife not getting too upset with my donation, I am looking for the least expensive kits. I think that after making slimline pens for the scouts, I'm going to make approximately 50% of the pens from Cigar Pens.

Where do you get kits with the best prices?

I know that there is a member that sells kits, does anyone know their name and contact information?

Thank you.

The Editor pen, aka tiny giant, is the cheapest I know, but it's still a cool little pen. Single barrel, easy to make.

We have a local Woodcraft Store nearby. It is independently owned. I've seen them donate kits and discount them as well for charity causes. I'm not sure about the suggested kits above but some single barrel pens are short enough to get two blanks from a standard size blank. Good Luck and Thank You for helping out the kids.

Does anyone else get asked to make pens for fundraisers?
I donate pens, and knives, to quite a few organizations. The Boy Scoouts I would consider a very worthy organization. I buy 99.9% of all my pens through Penn State Industries. Based on the number of pens you're donating you should get a good price on something like a Trim Line or Designer series. You can get an extra 10% off if you join a turners club that has signed up for the turners program with PSI.

The local Woodcraft store here supplies slimline kits for volunteers to turn at the store. They are donated to our troops. I've gone to the event for several years. I think Woodcraft will help you with that worthwhile cause.

I suspect the cheapest option, as long as you don't mind waiting for the parcel, is to look on one of the Chinese wholesale sites like Aliexpress, slimline kits can be had quite cheap on those site and you don't need to buy in bulk to get a good ish price.

Beware these listings on Etsy, prices you see are for the spare tubes.
Ken is correct as to what they show. If you click on the kits they run about $6.50 which is not bad for a 2 tube kit. If you are really ordering alot of kits than no better place is the https://www.aliexpress.com/store/1100399451 Rizheng site itself. They have a lot of kits that when bundled will pay for shipping easily.

It may pay to call some our vendors given the the quantity and cause. At least two of them have helped me out. They can only say, no. Good luck and much success with the Eagle Scout project.
