I am new to casting and want to get casting molds. Where is the best place to get molds, cheap because I don't have much money to spend. Please PM me with feedback.
Thanks in advance,
Adam

Adam, have you read over the articles in the library?

There is an article (or two) that explains how to make a mold from Silicone Caulking. That's what I did. I think it depends on the price of a tube of caulking (I paid over $7 a tube ... ) as to whether or nor it is practical.
As for purchasing molds several people here make them to sell. First you have to decide what type you want. Do you want to be able to pour one big "brick" that you can then cut into blanks? Or do you want to decide ahead of time what type pen you are going to make and place the tubes in the mold and pour the resin around them?
Check the molds made by Charlie (NewLondon88) and Fred (PTownSubbie) and at least one other member (which I don't remember) here. Hopefully he, or someone will post to fill in the name. This third member also sells resin I believe.
Of course you can also look for plastic (tupperware type) food containers of the right size at the dollar store.

Please dont try the silicone. I tied it and it cost me days of waiting and 15-20 bucks for the silicone and the bottom turned out all ripply . Just go to PTownSubbie Silicone Molds you should be able to find him on the first page of new posts. You will get a beautiful uniformly made mold that can be reused over and over. I spent around a year messing with my homemade molds and sure wished I had purchased one of those. Trust me Luke .... I am your father.

Check out the klip it lunch cube/container at Bed Bath and Beyond. They have 3 sections with dividers for pouring 3 different size slabs. I picked one up for $6. Worked well so far.

Then you have picked the wrong hobby.:biggrin: You WILL spend a lot of money...it's very addictive.

The PVC works well if you get the SCH40. It should slide right out after cured.

For slab molds, I simply cut up a cheap poly cutting board, duct taped it into a box shape, and 'caulked' the corners with goop. It worked a treat. I've similarly made some using UHMW jig stock pieces that I got at woodcraft for not very much.

For individual blank molds, I prefer to pour my own using pourable silicone. It's a bit spendier than making it out of caulk, but it's super easy.
