Beaumont Area?

Hello Houston Area folks!

I'm looking to those of you to the East for a little help:

I have been approached about a job in the Beaumont/Port Arthur area. If I can convince the wife and kids (and if the hiring company can convince$$$ me), I may move up that way. What I'm looking for from my friends on the IAP is:
1) what do you like about the area? (Stuff to entertain kids at a reasonable price, strong community values, etc.)
2) what don't you like? (Hurricane threats, poor city management, poor sense of community?)
3) how many of you pen turners are in that area?

I'm originally from Port Arthur, but it's been almost 15 years since I've been back there so I probably would not be of much help.

I am in Friendswood, across Galveston Bay; I have known people who move from Beaumont, a few that are still there; but, nobody who moved there on purpose. If you are from Corpus, then you already know about hurricanes. There is a lot of wood and woodworking and turning here.

So far it has only been a thought. I'm trying to stay here, but if the offer is too good to pass up, it may likely be a different story! Thank you all for the input.

I have relatives who live in the Nederland area and seem to like it just fine. Nederland is south of Beaumont and north of Port Arthur on US 73
