i bought a second one from beal. it only cost about 5 bucks and shipping was very cheap. i'm surprised they don't include a second one as you really need one. i tried a strap wrench once and couldn't get mine undone with the one i was using.
 
I use both the spanner and the strap to loosen the chuck. I put the strap on the chuck and then the spanner wrench on the cap that screws on and off, works great. I have also found that you do not have to be to agressive when you tighten the chuck, I just snug it good by hand and it tightens on its own. If you tighten it with wrenches, well you had better have some non-marring pipe wrenches and a couple extra muscles.

I think there are different types of strap wrenches. The one I have did not work either. Got a second from Beall. That was years ago... and I suggested at the time to include 2 by default. Or, alternatively, machine flats on the end of the chuck for a wrench. If you don't have a working strap wrench already, I think you'd be better off getting the 2nd spanner from Beall.
