I've struggled the last while with my Triton Respirator. Batteries don't hold a charge for long and then it gets noisy and hot. I'm thinking of swapping out the factory D cells for some Titanium 12000 mAh 1.2 V ones from batteryjunction.com and purchasing a smart charger (smart RC rechargeable battery pack charger for 1.2V-14.4V). i should get much longer running time and better performance. This seems like a less expensive option than buying a new respirator. Any thoughts on the idea? Can I make this charger work so that the cells can be recharged in the unit just like normal?

Thanks
Michael

Thanks Gary. The last time I contacted them they just sold me a refurbished module and it hasn't lasted long either. When you look at their website it doesn't seem like they have changed anything as far as the batteries and charger are concerned.

Triton replaced my battery pack twice, then I rebuilt it with better batteries form batteryjunction.com.

This was a few years ago. Things might be different with them now. Can't hurt to check with them first

Thanks Ron. That's good to know. I've emailed Triton so we'll see what happens.

No problems with the retrofit to your Triton? Which batteries did you get from batteryjunction and did you buy a new charger?

It has been a few years. IIRC they where the Sub-C, NiCd 2200 mAh with tabs. I beleive you need five of them. Double check me on the quantity. The fit was a breeze.

If I where to do it again, I would look into NiMh batteries and replace the charger that came with the Triton.

You won't see too many new spare parts for any Triton equipment as they went belly up nearly a year ago.

Triton was bought out by GMC a few years ago and GMC expanded too fast, you know the story, and ran out of money and lenders.

Both Triton and GMC were Australian companies, really sad.

RIP Triton.

Thanks for the update Fred. I discovered something new today about the one really noisy power module. The motor in it has a lot of play where the shaft comes through and gets attached to the fan. I'm thinking if I can find a new motor of the right size and put in some new batteries that things should be okay. Also found out that Malcolm Zander, an Ottawa turner has adapted his Triton so it runs from a fan in another room. No problem then with filters etc.
