I have always been told that the BAron could only be sold by AS. I was just doing a little surfing and found the same Baron being sold by another company and as a Baron. Have things changed or have I been misinformed in the past?

The true "BARON" can only be sold by AZ silhouette in the States, and by William Woodwrite (Penblanks.ca) in Canada to Canadians, as AZ does not sell to Canada...WW is the exclusive Canadian distributor, and AZ is the exclusive American distributor...

Knock-offs, such as the Navigator, are sold elsewhere...

I'm sorry but I don't know why this is so important...I also don't want to "rat" on Lee Valley, but IME, if Lee Valley shouldn't be selling these to those of us in the US, they will probably stop if told. I can only share my experience..Lee Valley calls theirs "Baron" and, other than the finish, I don't see any difference in the kits (the cap/post threads are interchangeable):

(L) Titanium Gold from Lee Valley (R) Black titanium from Arizona Silhouettes

Edit to add: I'll also follow up directly with Lee Valley. I don't want to buy something which is an identically named "knock'off." Again, such sales tactics completely out of character for Lee Valley especially since so many do "knock'offs" of their Veritas tools.

Edit with more to add: I checked the bags and even the item #s look the same...if this is a knock-off, they are going all-out!

Gentle folks -- there is a difference between "knock off" and trademark licensing agreements - think franchise. The Navigator is the same pen hardware with a different marketing name.

Also note that licensing agreements are not forever - and do expire as do patents. Trademarks, they can take last a long long time. Berea and a Tiawan manufacturer are in the arrangement also --

At least this is not a confusing as the same name being given to two pens with different sized parts --

I didn't know that Lee Valley sold the "Baron" named pen as well...perhaps the exclusivity arrangement has expired?

When the majority of pen kits come from the same manufacturer, or group of manufacturers, you're bound to see identical, or nearly identical, kits marketed with different names.

EDIT: I notice that William Woodwrite is no longer proclaiming on their website that they cannot sell Barons to Americans...given that, and the Lee Valley use of the name "Baron", and I'm guessing that the Baron's exclusivity arrangement has expired (just a guess, mind you)

I look forward.... so very forward with eager anticipation to when Ernie at Beartoothwoods.com can get the Baron. I believe he does too!

I have spoken personally with Jim Heusinger about this, a while back, expressing that I wanted to have other locations to purchase the Baron from (I will NOT elaborate on this other than to say that I would rather have a couple of places to shop at rather than being noosed into buying from one place only).

Our conversation was positive but nothing definitive.

Maybe we are finally seeing the Baron pop up elsewhere?
