Banksia......fur???

I recently got my hands on three small Banksia pods that I wanted to turn into a couple of pen and stopper blanks. I started trying to clean the "fur" off and that turned into a mess and a real PITA:frown:. Does anyone have a trick to remove this stuff they would like to share?

put on the lathe and turn it off......it goes easy

Just keep turning. If it still there when you are finishing your cuts, soak it in CA a bit. It'll polish up fine.

If you have dust collection by the lathe!

CA is the key. Once you get most of the fuzz off, coat it with CA (which also helps protect the "eyes") and continue turning until you get to the desired shape. The dust collection recommendation above is important.

BTW, these things make great salt and pepper shakers.
