I had my first follow-up with the surgeon today. Everything looks good but he was a bit concerned that I may have a fair amount of nerve damage. One side of my pinky is tingly and I wasn't able to tell whether I was being touched with one or both points on a pair of tweezers on that side, the other side was fine though.

The stitches will be removed in about a week, the 2 pins will stay in place for 5 or 6 more weeks.

Oh man, that brings back some memories!!!! I sawed over half way through a bone in my middle finger, left hand. Those pins will really bother you as the healing comes along. As the swelling left, it seemed to "pull" more around the skin and the pin. Speaking of pull, wait till he removes those pins. Fancy medical tooling? Nope, pliers, with this kinda twisty motion!!!! Best of luck during the healing. I think I just broke out in a sweat.[xx(]

I really feel for you partner. All it takes is 1/2 second not paying attention and eeeoukkks! You weren't as lucky as my wife, she nearly severed her middle finger on a table saw by just turning her head after the power was off. No need to ask how it happened, the pics will make me even more cautious around the saws. Thanks for sharing?????

Wow. You've really got to start being more careful before you get seriously injured.

Jason, that really sucks that had to happen to you. I hope you feel better soon and regain the feeling in the finger. On the bright side, it didn't take your hand off and you will recover from this. Take care of yourself.

Jason, I feel for you! I was cutting some hard maple lumber at a 45 degree angle making some french cleats for my shop 15 months ago. I was using a push stick with my right hand, had the slit wood safety fingers in the miter slot holding pressure against the board towards the fence on my table saw. I had placed my left hand past the saw blade helping to hold the pieces down after it was past the saw blade. I had just ripped 4 of the varmints and was on the last one when the blade hit a hidden nail that was not visible anywhere on the board, which had been purchased fully kiln dried and dressed S4S to 3/4" stock. The kick-back took my left hand over the saw blade, slicing my thumb length wise from tip to where it joined the palm, thru the bone. I had the surgery, the pins, the soft cast for 6 weeks, the therapy, in other words the works, including the fused knuckle. Just last week had to go back in for a second surgery, rebreaking the fused knuckle, and resetting at a different angle, and burying part of the nerves below the meaty part of my palm to stop the constant throbbing. This time I have two titanium screws holding the knuckle from moving, so no pins, but have the stitches, the soft cast and the unable to use for the next several weeks. I feel for you. I have a completely new set-up for my table saw, so that will not happen again. The worst part of the whole thing, was the blood stains on the maple. Couldn't even bleach it out, and had to throw away an otherwise good board!!!
