Jeff, I'm thinking this is not what you want, but I just did cast and turn some tri-color gold leaf from Michael's with a few drops of Amber transparent dye (Castin' Craft). I think it's very fall looking, but haven't fiddled with straight PR colors yet.

I figured you were, Jeff. Have you seen the kinds dark brown with an orange ribbon through it that almost all the dealers have? I'd be happy to send you one if you want to try it. Or were you looking for something kinda swirled together.

Sorry, but you mentioned in an earlier post something about random drug testing. Man, today I would fail with spectacular results. I just did moments ago get back from the Hospital after knee surgery. I can tell you they have the good stuff there!!! Wow, I still feel like I'm in the outer atmosphere...

Let me know if that commercial one interests you and I'll send you a pic first-when I can see straight enough to not walk into a wall!!!

You know what, Jeff? I knew you cast your own. At least I do this morning, after my very strange trip last night. I slept 12 hours....with artificial help.

Hope you come up with something, share it if you do. And thanks, Michael! I did all of opening an envelope from Michael's and squirting a few drops of Amber in. But it did work, and I like it too. Thanks!

I would be very interested in hearing how you achieved the swirling colors around the pine cones. And do you stabilize the cones first, or just dry them and cast?

Colors are mixed individually, not all together. So you mix up a brown and you mix up a white. Once the colors are mixed, when you pour the two different colors into the mold basically at the same time, they swirl around and intermingle with one another creating a brown/white swirl...using those two colors just as an example of course.

Jeff,
The four main Pearl Ex Colors are: Interference Gold, Aztec Gold, Super Russet & Antique Bronze. Each of those colors has an opaque dye in it except Int. Gold. The tube was not painted. The darker brown color was actually the pine cone.

The pine cone acts as a diffuser for the separate colors. One secret to swirling is not to pour all of one color at a time. Break it up/layer it/cross pour it..... if your timing is close to gel time..... magic!

I can't recommend Pearl Ex "Mink" so far. It is a beautiful brown but seems to have over-tones of forest green interference in it. Kind of strange. I'll eventually find a good vehicle for it.

Sorry 'bout that Jeff - been out for a little more than a week. It sounds like yours will turn up great. Post pics, will ya?

DUHHHHHHH! Couldn't get a word in edgewise..... Phenomenal work. Really!! :worship::worship::highfive:

Do you remember that PM I sent you back when you sent me the box of pine cones? I finished up saying I was working on a PR blank w/ leaves. Fortunately mine is really different from yours. I developed it back in November but at Thanksgiving developed an eye problem that has prevented me from turning since then. :crying: It's been difficult to even get all my casting done. But hopefully in the next month I'm going to post pics of my own! :)
