As far as I know all the Aus members came through OK. I live close to Bendigo Vic where there were 2 major fires. There was one at Long Gully-Eaglehawk, about 25km NW of me and one at Redesdale, about 25km SE of me, so we were in the middle.

Fortunately our property, a rural block of 25 acres, was not affected.

If you would like to see some more info about our local fires, here is a link to our local Bendigo paper.

To see more on the fires trhoughout Victoria, our state and the one most affected, here is a link to our state paper.

The death toll at present stands at 127 and is expected to rise to 200 or more.

We have had horrendous temperatures, Saturday we had 47C or 112F, with hot northern winds op to 55mph and dust storms, so not pleasant.
Temperatures for the last 3 weeks have not afllen much belwo 40C or 103F.

I checked out the Wood Forum site and was talking with some of the folks on it. So far it seems that everybody is doing okay. I check in their regularly so will keep people posted. Beside the fires they are also having severe flooding in other parts of Australia. Let's all send our positive energy in their direction.

Fires like that are set intentionally all the time. California is the worst victim in the US. Just a bunch of sick people who aren't concerned with the lives of others. And when they're caught, a couple years in the pen or mental hospital.

I just saw some pics on the web. I grew up in SoCal and am used to fires, but this was different. As horrible as the cost in human lives and property was, think of what this did to the animal populations. I'm betting when this is all said and done, a species or 2 will have disappeared, or at least been rendered seriously endangered, with little hope of recovery.

My heart goes out to all Aussies. We're all Aussies right now.

Dale

Fortunately, the Aussies aren't as compassionate with murderers as we in the States are, I hope they catch the Bas#$@rds that started those fires.

Us Aussies might not be, but our justice system is! We don't have the death penalty in any form, like you guys have over there, more is the pity!

My better half suggested the appropriate penalty for arsonists was burning at the stake, slowly:mad:

I'm lucky enough to live in Sth East Queensland, below the floods and above the fires, so we're all safe here. It seems almost everyone knows someone who has been affected though. Over 1,000 houses destroyed, it's just unbelievable.

But I see now that some other sicko's have turned up and are looting the burned out homes within hours of the dead being removed, before relatives can even get in and recover anything that survived. I just can't comprehend what motivates some people.

Russell.
