I know its a long shot but we can try. I can make a rollerball kit for him building the kit around K&S engineering brass tubes.

Might try Bexley--their offices are in the USA, don't know if they MAKE anything or actually import it all.

Phone call could be worthwhile.

Then buy one of their pens and rebuild around the components. I assume the customer EXPECTS to PAY for "made in USA".

If my backyard is USA, then yes. But I don't offer pen parts for sale to others, as they are too time consuming to make which would make them too costly to sell. If I could afford automated equipment, I would still not be making the parts for re-sale because there would be no way I could compete. I'd be out of business just paying taxes, let alone all the material costs and energy bills. If you were in manufacturing, you would move to China or India too.

Actually I would rather send them to Bexley than to buy one and remake it. IF I cant make it for them myself. Sometimes you have to know when to say no. THis is a request by a potential client looking to make a pen for their client. I have put forth the effort on his behalf of asking the members of this forum. If anyone would know it would probably be known by someone here. I have already advised this person that they could build a rollerball or F/P around the brass tubes offered by K&S Engineering but was unaware of any of the transmissions, couplers etc that were made in the US.

I've met with Bexley Pens owner, Howard Levy, in the past, and seen his operation first hand. During our conversation I asked him where he got his materials from, His answer, "All over the world". Now at the time we were mainly talking about his acrylics and other pen body material, but I got the impression that he imports most of his components. I may be wrong, but I was surprised that his operation is much, much, much smaller in terms of space, equipment and employees than one might imagine for a company with world-wide distribution. I just didn't see any sign of hardware being produced so you still might not have your, Made in the USA parts".

There are no fountain pen nibs, feeds, housings made in the USA, almost all are from Germany or Asia, as with ball point and pencil mechanisms. There is a clip manufacturer in New England, Ideal, and somewhere I saw a nose cone manufacturer in the USA, but pretty much everything else is made overseas.
