I am going to be down in FL for a week with the family over spring break. The wife has family in Tampa and Ocala. I would like to pick up some native FL woods to bring back home while I am down there.

Does anyone know of any good places to buy any wood in these areas, or do any of you that live around these areas sell wood?

Jeremy,

I'm halfway between Gainesville and Ocala, roughly 20 miles north of downtown.
Send a PM for directions if you want to stop by and grab some wood from my
fallen timbers. I've also got some native black cherry, a little cypress, and some Antique old growth heart pine.

Here's an interesting spot north of Tampa an hr or so,
http://www.tomscypressinc.com/Home2.html . I stoped there on a visit south and came back with lots.

Tom's is about 35 minutes NE of my home; it's a dangerous place to visit if
you have a truck and carry large amounts of cash or CCs with available limits.
He has Buckeye burl slabs the size of a small car as well as a variety of
other slabs (some burls, some ambrosia maple, some claro walnut to name a few) which would make gorgeous table tops.
Some of these slabs are 2-3" thick, 8' long, 48" across.
It's a great place to view wood porn in person.

I have a friend with a down Live oak that we can probably grab some pretty large chain sawn hunks off too.
The tree is about 60" at the base which makes it pretty immobile.

I live in St. Cloud just south of Orlando and have a variety of native woods, such as grapefruit, Loquat, Camphor. Podocarpus, Chinese Elm, Pecan, Norfolk Island Pine. Avacado.
PM me if you plan to be in the Disney World area.

I live in St Petersburg. There is a guy down in Bradenton that sells pre-cut and waxed spindle, pen, and bowl blanks. Most are from local trees. His name is Steve and is a really nice guy.

His website is www.woodturningblanks4u.com. You just call or email him to setup a time to stop by.
