I'm heading down to Duluth, Minnesota for the first week of January...I know there's a Harbor Freight down there, but is there anything else woodworking-related that's worth seeing? Is there a Rockler or Woodcraft nearby that anyone knows of?

There are Rockler in the Minneapolis/St Paul area as well (like the woodcraft from the last post).. I actually went to the Burnsville one on my last trip to MN.. It is their "outlet" store too.. I didn't find anything special at that time in the outlet, but ... who knows.

I'm just 2 hours south of there, in Minneapolis. There is a place called "Tool Crib" in Duluth, though I've never been there. They have one down here, and I get their flyers in the mail. They seem to have a good selection and decent prices.

If you ever make it to the Twin Cities, there is a place near downtown St. Paul called Seven Corners. Basically a hardware store on steroids. You really have to see it. The entire second floor is a showroom full of high-quality WW tools and accessories, with all the major brands.

There are 3 or 4 Rockler stores around the Twin Cities, and a Woodcraft store as well.

Cheers.

Just north of Minneapolis, here in Fridley, MN is a great used tool store clled Tried & True Tools, their stuff turns over so each visit is an adventure and a treasure hunt, on University Ave & Osborne, worth the trip south from Duluth then you can hit Woodcraft and bring your fiance to the Mall of America, it is very close to the Bloomington Woodcraft (another 30 minutes south)

Andrew, my friend .... just wanted to double check on where to leave your gift. Will you be back home in Canada for Christmas Eve? Oh yeah, one more thing ... which OneWay do you want me to leave for you ... is it the 2436 or the 1224? ;)

Hey Santa,

Christmas will find me out sledding up here in the Great White North (not your kind of sledding - mine has power of a different sort!) I guess yours is a bit more environmentally friendly...depending on what you fed your reindeer, that is! :D

And if you're bringing me a OneWay, you'll DEFINITELY need those two extra reindeer now!! I'll even leave out the GOOD treats (homemade chocolate cheesecake cupcakes and the best hot chocolate you've ever had!)

It's a fair size town (85k+) - I use to live in that neck of the woods on the Wisconsin side. There are a few local wood stores - but not like Craft Supply or such. A nice size hobby store if I remember.
If you want some skiing at http://www.spiritmt.com/ the view of the lake is quite nice.

One thing to remember - it can get real warm down their vs where you live. :)

Bradbn4 having fun in Colorado

Skiing?? Really? Packing my skis for sure then! I'm a huge ski nut, so I'll definitely have to give that a go (although it's not the Rockies, it's better than nothing!)

Andrew

P.S. fair sized town? Kenora's about 16k, and we call it a city! :) I grew up in a town where the speed limit was greater than the population! :D

Meisel Hardware Specialties is in Mound, MN. I Think that's close to Duluth.

Long ago when I was in the USAF I spent three years in "warm" Duluth. One January morning I got off the night shift at 8 a.m. Walked out of the nice 72 degree building thru a two inch steel door. It was - (minus)52 degrees farenheit on the other side of that door. I haven't been back since 1965 ;)

That almost sounds like the old SAG building, I think they converted that building to a jail. I use to lived in that neck of the woods from about 1964 - 1981. The coldest real was around 65 below - that I got to experence.
Not sure how big spirt mt is, but I guess it you love to skii - it would be worth checking out.

Bradbn4 - still having fun in cool (5 degrees) Colorado
