This is from another forum...I don't even know the guy but worth giving a hand I think. I will supply the wood if I have what he wants to use.

If any of you can mentor and teach this guy (loan your tools & eqpt too :D)...in your shop only ofcourse. I am sure he will treasure the memory and your help.

Who knows...he might end up amongst us after this [}:)] LOL

Help making pens

Hi all!!

I need the help of a Chicago area turner. I want to make three wood pens for my wedding. Two will be given to the witnesses that sign the Ketubah, which is a Jewish wedding contract, and one for me to sign it as well. I have never turned a pen. I don't even have a lathe to turn them on. I looked over the kits on Pen State's website and do like their Polaris line.

So, is there anyone in the Lake Country Chicago area that is willing to help me with this small project?

I greatly appreciate the help!

Dan

Dario, I am in Lake County and would be willing to help if the timing works out. I am pretty busy between now and the Middle of March. Especially on Saturdays. Now, considering he is Jewish, Sunday's might work out better for him anyway.

One other consideration is that I am exclusive to CSUSA and have no experience with the Penn State polaris. So either the polaris works with a 7mm mandrel or he finds a CSUSA kit that he likes. I'm biased, but I like the later choice. Let me know.

Chris,

Do you want me to contact him? If so, please send me your contact info and I will forward it to him.

Thank you,

Kent,

Thank you very much for the offer. I will check with the better half and get her opinions on CS USA's kits. There is a woodworking show at the Wisconsin State Fair Grounds at the end of Feb which will give us a chance to pick up the pen kits we like. Dario has sent me your contact info.

Thanks again!!

Dan

Well, we finally got together yesterday and got busy turning his pens. Sorry, I didn't take pictures and he has the pens. 5 beautiful BOW Gentleman's. Both Dan and his Fiancee Allison took turns turning and sanding. Only had one blowout, but luckily, we found the piece, got it glued back and moved on. Nice couple. Thanks Dario for communicating about this. Hopefully Dan will post the pictures.

Way to go to Chris. Super nice gesture on your part. I also hope Dan posts the pictures.
