Who Likes Kittens?

My son and his friend found 4 abandoned kittens a couple of weeks ago. One of them had a severe respiratory infection and despite all the care I could give, it passed away. At least it's last few days were filled with Love, warmth and happiness.

Here are the other 3.

Come on Ron,
I have a pit too, they are great animals and they get enough bad press without us owners making it worse.... Daisy, my pit will actually play with cats as long as they don't swat at her. Give the breed a break....

I like to tell you a story if you don't mind?

My wife worked at a bank. She always told me that she did not like cats at all. Then one day one the ladies husbands drove up while she was working in the drive up lane window and he asked if anyone would want a kitten that he found on his property that was a stray? She said no and the other that worked there said no to. As he drove off the kitten popped its head up and she yelled out wait I'll take it. She called me at work and said she was bring home a kitten. I said are you crazy we have a blue tick hound dog that hates cats!!! So she brought it home and when I got home i held the dog and she inturn held the kitten. The dog was pulling so hard it was hurting my hand. I inched the dog closer and she sniff and started lickking the kitten and everything was well. The dog start for the cat and i freaked. The dog picked the kitten up by the neck and went down and sat it right next to her and started caring for it. Funny how things go. That dog took care of the cat for 8 years. They played together like you would not believe. Play fighting and all. They would not bite each other but it sure looke like they were. The cat ended up gitting kidney cancer and had to be put down but we gave him the best of love and so did my dog. The dog has been sad and so have we since he the cat left us and we have never replaced him in our hearts.

Oh, you most fortunate of souls! To have both the opportunity, and the compassion, to bring stray kittens in and make them part of your family! You will be amply rewarded, times three by the looks of it! And I agree, the middle one looks like a character!

Scott.

Unfortunately, I was being kinda real.

First, let me explain that my Pit Bulls are both Highly trained, and very well behaved animals, raised in an environment of nothing but pure love and happiness. "Fred", My male, is usually getting his face chewed off (not literally) by my 2 pound weenie dog. And my female "Willow" loves to play chase in the yard with the weenie dog. They are both well mannered around other dogs, kids, and animals in General. Where I live, there is a fairly large population of wild rabbits, so dogs that like to kill animals would never float. Not to mention I own a registered Kennel with the ADBA, and have spent ALOT of time money to promote the bloodline in a positive way. In my 10 plus years breeding Pit Bulls, I have turned people in for fighting dogs, killing pups, cruelty to animals, and probably other things i can't remember. I love to talk about Pits, PM me if yu wanna compare bloodlines, or just chat in general about the ULTIMATE AMERICAN DOG!

That being said, About three months ago, I went to a neighbors house to play video games for a couple of hours. Fred broke the door to his dog crate and escaped. He spotted my big male cat and the wrestling match was on. When i got home, I glanced through the doorway, My kitchen was destroyed, potted plants and dirt everywhere, the bread box got busted, etc. etc. The cat lay lifeless in the floor. I immediately sent my wife off out of fear of a gruesome situation. I have seen Pit Bull dogs attack out of aggression, and this was not the case at all. He just wanted to play. Unfortunately, he does not know his own strength and the cat paid for it. Now he is in a new crate, and we don't own a cat, and won't as long as we have him. I have pictures of the two bull dogs laying in bed with the cat, all sleeping together. I have pictures of the cat playing with Fred's ears while he is trying to nap. They were buddies. In fact, My dogs are so well known for being dosile, My friends called the Grandmother to the pair i have now, the "Wal Mart Greeter". She had to say hello to EVERYONE! And her tail would wag so hard, she would have a hard time walking! I think you said it best when you described your baby girl Daisy.. She does fine, till the cat gets excited.

I guess I'll be rewarded times six because I already have three of my own.
They are all getting along much better than I expected. My big male cat has taken to the black & white kitten and has been cleaning and caring for her morning and night. The middle one is quite a character indeed but the one on the left is actually the one that is the most mischievous. The black & white one must think she's a parrot because as soon as I get home she is on my shoulder and just sits there and purrs.

Got one already and a dog lab/rotweiller cross. Don't need any more. I did have a Chinese friend I used to work with who always claimed he had a recipe for both. I used to believe him until I found out he bought a golden retriever and it developed hip displasia. He spent 5K on surgery to correct it and the whole family would sleep in the basement with the dog until it healed because it couldn't navigate the stairs.

We have had a full blooded American Ragdoll for 8 years, and it was the most spoiled and loved animal in our lives.

One day, I found a very little fur ball on the verge of death, and brought it home. Took it to the vets the next day, and the doc said if I had not happened upon the animal, it would have been a gonner in the night. Mrs Rojo and I loved and nursed it back to full health, and the two cats are doing great together. Sometimes you get a great gift in things like that! The one we found looks very much like the "middle" one!

Thanks Ron for the more complete explanation of your remark. Glad to see that you do know and understand the breed. I guess I'm just a little sensitive about the bully breeds. Here in GA, it seems like any dog story in the paper or on TV is about how some vicious bully breed (pit, bullmastif, fill in the blank) attacked someone unprovoked (usually NOT). Like you said they are gentle and loving but they are tenacious. Whether playing or truly being aggressive. This is why he breed does need a strong alpha owner.

I live in an active adult community where there are a lot of dogs, mostly toy breeds. We always keep Daisy on a leash, not because she is aggressive to the small dogs, but because they are often aggressive toward her. She would rather play but the breed will not back away from a fight..... Can't wait to get home to be welcomed by her:)

It is sad that some breeds have a bad reputation that is caused by careless owners. A very good friend of mine works with various animal rescue organizations and he fosters the so called "dangerous breeds". I am truly amazed at how he has turned some of these animals around. Love, patients and understanding are very powerful. I've witnessed dogs that came to him in muzzles, snarling and snapping. Within the short span of a few weeks these animals have been transformed into docile loving creatures that have been given a second chance at life in a loving and caring home.

Cute. I'm not a cat guy...have two labs...and I live out in the country. All that been said, I get a lot of city folks that dump their critters out where I live. The cats usually become feral and the dogs run in packs.

Anyway, this last summer some ---hole threw a kitten out the window as he drove by. I live on a gravel road. My son saw the kitten lying there and went out and picked it up. It's bottom lip had been pulled loose below it's chin. I cleaned it out, dug gravel out from it's side and chin, and got it back to decent health. We ended up finding a home for it.

Like I said, not a cat guy, but would have liked to pull that guys lip off.

I am an extreme cat lover. But I only have one right now. We also have a large German Shepherd. Some time ago my cousin brought home a pit bull puppy someone left in a parking lot in a box. We fostered her for 3 months and decided we couldn't keep her. It wasn't HER fault. The cat pestered her unmercifully.

She did find a good home!

I am also usually pretty quick to snap to the defense of Pit Bulls. I adopted a female that was the last of her litter. It took us a week just to get her to come out from under the table. She eventually got to where she would tolerate other people but her love for me was very obvious.

I have owned several dog breeds both growing up as a kid, and as an adult, and NOTHING compares to owning a Pit Bull. They are also one of the easiest breeds i have ever trained. Super smart, and loyal to the end.

I live in the country too and I see first hand what feral cats (country people's definition of a feral cat is any cat not kept indoors after dark) do to our native mammals and birds. You wouldn't believe how big some of them get.

They are some of the most efficient hunters out there.

We treat feral cats the same as foxes, we either trap them (disposed of humanely) or shoot them.

So the message to city people is, don't dump that kitten in the country, it is your responsibility, so deal with it.

That's a cute trio you have there . Good luck with them . Your Karma went up a few points when you took them in . I brought home a feral kitten about a month ago , we named him Trouble and so far he is living up to his name ... lol . He looks allot like the one in the left picture . He is proving to be the best cat I have ever had , and he is extremly smart . So far he has learned several commands/tricks . He will sit when told and Beg for treats and he has now learned to give me his paw for a treat . We have nicknamed him "The puppy-cat" because he follows me around the house like a puppy dog and now is learning the tricks .

Cats are great. They can fly 70 + yards out of a potato cannon if its built right.
LOL JK
I have 2 Cats and a dog. One of the cats is a champange Burnmese CKC Registered thing at $800 bucks.. Yea we didn't pay for it as it was given to us from a woman that could not take care of it. How can someone not take care of a cat. Especially when you spend $800 on something.
Anyhow. I like cats they are easy to take care of, they basically do everything themselves. But as a man at 6' 4" and 275 lbs I should be saying there stupid, useless, etc.... But nope I have a little spot in my heart for the little rats.
