They are located in Traverse City, Michigan. Maybe someone could track them down for you Jared and go take a look at what they've got. There is a website that talks about "photo altered" wood.

Those pictures do look altered and it seems to be an not uncommon practice on the internet. THAT said, there are MANY vendors who will show you as accurately as possible what you are buying. The good ol' advice applies: Be careful, check it out before you give 'em your money.
Good luck.

I don't live near Traverse City, but there's another place just outside Traverse City that has a big box of cutoffs. You can sort through them and pick out all kinds of exotics (the mix varies by the jobs they are doing) and walk away with an apple box full of nice sized cutoffs for $10. I've been there several times when visiting my parents in Northern Michigan. Here's their website:

Great people to deal with. If you head over there, tell Jason that Bill from Alberta (Ray's son) sent you!

Rare Earth Hardwoods & Bigwoodslabs.com are the same company..
Same web design, Tx. and email...

I will be in that area over the 4th of July. It was on my list of places to stop. I found out about them from a friend of mine that does flatwork. He gets all his wood from them..

They have some fabulous wood in that place. They also make custom doors that will leave you wondering how to get your eyes back in their sockets! They even grow a lot of their own stuff in some Amazon jungle that they bought a few years ago. They are committed to renewable forestry there...at least that's what they told us! At any rate, the pictures probably aren't all that far off...yes, they're a bit orangey, but I suspect (based on what I've seen and picked up there) that the colours aren't way off.
