As I was sitting here, filling out my information for the Austin/San Antonio NMMI Tattoo, it dawned on me, are there any other New Mexico Military Institute alumni that are members of the IAP?

For that matter, how about any of the other Military Academies? Did anyone else here have the joy of High School or College in polyester uniform bliss

No, but I grew up in Clovis -- right down the road -- and spent a lot of time in Roswell growing up.

We go through Roswell all the time on the way to Ruidoso. Our friends son went to NMMI and we would drop off care packages every once in awhile. 2 years and he decided he wanted to go somewhere else

Haha, yeah i was only there 2 years myself (came as a junior, then graduated).

Clovis! My parents still live in Portales! So you can understand why I decided to go to school in Roswell... compared to Portales, Roswell was a thriving metropolis :)

Well, I went to Gordon Military high school and again for two years of college. Place was in Barnesville, Georgia. Graduated from both HS in 1966 and then college in 1968. US Army in ... damned, I best see if I am cleared to give that intel out yet! I don't want to have to start killing folks cause I ran my mouth, even though it is safe to say that it is many years after the fact.

BTW, never wore polyester anything. All the education staff was active Army in both theaters of learning and we were issued the "real thing" in uniforms. To this day I hate stiff, starched green cammys.

Nice Fred!

We had the nice starched green cammys... only on Wednesday or if we were doing our "tours" (punishment). The rest of the time was polyester slacks with plastic shoes (Well, for the classroom ware that is). Class B uniforms (SRC) were same slacks, long sleeve shirts, but proper spit shined leather shoes.

The school was also my first exposure to Brasso... still need to pick some of that up to try on my acrylics :)

All I can say about Military School is, I hated it at the time, but looking back on it, I would definitely do it all over again!

Both my father's and my mother's families are from Portales. My parents were in school there in the 50's. I have a lot of family in and around Portales.
