G0661 10" 2 HP Contractor Style Table Saw with Riving Knife

I'm seriously considering this saw as my final pick. Anyone familiar with it? Also, it has the Fox Aluma fence. I'm thinking up upgrading to Classic fence (what ya think? Would it matter?)

Thanks!!! :)

Oh... the reasons. Should have enough power I'll need to go the route of 110. I'm renting and probably will have to for the next 5 years or more. I'm more transient than before and figure this would be a cabinet saw. Price is a little high for this preacher but I've always wanted a good saw to complement my shop. Most of my tools are hand me downs including my current saw that can't cut straight for anything. Set up... won't let me.

Griz, I have no doubt it would be more than adequate for hobby use. I have an old (20 yr) Craftsman 1hp with the stock fence and it does all I ask. Of course you will get some telling you to get the SS but if the Grizzly is a bit high, well you know the rest. Just my .02.

http://www.ridgid.com/Tools/R4511-Table-Saw/EN/index.htm I just bought one of these at home depot for $499 and if you register at ridgid.com you get alifetime warranty. I love it but im replacing a 5 year old craftsman $125 table saw. Never had a Grizzly because i dont like something that large mailed to me and not be able to take it back to the store if somethings wrong. But i hear good things about the grizzly. Oh, it also has a mobile base so you can move it around, even though it weighs almost 400lbs.

Happy New Year Griz. Am I reading your post right in that you are going to use the TS for cabinet work? I ran a cabinet shop for several years. You use a lot of 4'X8' plywood for case construction. You need a fence that will give you a 48" cut. That fence looks like a 24". I started my shop with a 2H.P. craftsman TS. It was not long until I put a after market fence on the saw for 48" cut. You could make a sled that would work for a while. Within a year I bought a 5H.P. Unisaw. I still have it today and would not go back to a light weight TS.
If you are going to do mostly hobby work, that TS will ge great.

Thanks everyone... still thinking it out. I've got time.

Griz,
Like Ellis, I too started doing cabinetry on a Craftsman, because it was a "good deal" at the time. After a couple of months, I upgraded to an Incra fence, but the saw was still not capable, due to how the trunnion was mounted, and how little it really took to knock it back out. I fixed this by totally removing the trunnion, machining the four mounting bosses, so they were parallel to the mounting surface and flat, and then re-installed with large dia flat washers, then the star washers for anit-backoff, then the nuts.
After a year, I upgraded to the Grizzly Cabinet saw. And got another benefit from it which was a huge decrease in noise due to the mass, construction, and power of the machine.
If you can, purchase the best saw you can up front. Especially if you are going to handle sheet goods.

Grizz,
I have the G1023SLWX with the 52" rails for my hobby TS and have no complaints. I have 2 uni-saws in my cabinet shop and love those. Between the 2 there are some differences but on the overall picture I am glad with the decision I made. I saved about $1600.00 going with the grizzly for my hobby saw. I also did not want to limit myself to what kind of hobbies I could do on this saw so it is set up like a cabinet saw with out feed and everything to cut sheet goods. It only takes a few minutes to break it down to move it if I need to.
Hope this helps you make your decision,
Mike H.

I'd have to second his recommendation. I've used the previous model of this saw and it's a great saw. For the price it's ridiculous how much saw you get for $500.
