Does anyone use FTA for thier TV provider----I know a guy who uses thier system but he has to update the thing almost daily---he's retired and I don't have that kind of free time to mess with it.
I know there is a better way of doing it-- I just don't know where the info is.

It means Free To Air... It's basically free satellite transmissions, as I understand it. Hasn't really caught on. Limited choices.

Thew reason it hasn't caught on is because there is so little info about it here in the USA====I think it's a rebroadcast from the land of Oz.
You get all the channels free---this would sure as heck hurt the cable companies.

He could be bootlegging the signal, which is illegal. AT one time I was involved in it on both Dishnetwork and Direct TV. If he is having to upgrade daily, then I think he is stealing the signal. Just my openion. To me when I was doing it was a game to get the "free" programing as I had a subscription to Dishnetwork but played with reprogramming the access cards as a challenge, which cost me $4500 when the clamped down, almost lost my job and retirement over it. As I understand it, not having done for 5 or 6 years FTA is a little questionable as it is a satellite signal.

He is picking up a signal that comes from FTA. It is Free---I know that folks will say--- nothing is free so it must be illegal.
Really if you think about it---when I was a kid everyone got thier TV signal free.
I just figured someone here might have some info on buying a working system. They sell them on ebay but most of those are junk and only work for a short period of time.

There are a highly limited number of truly FTA channels. The proliferation of FTA channels is due to pirating and hacking of codes to the satellite pay broadcasts. For a fairly good description of legitimate FTA, check out http://tinyurl.com/p4bd2
. BTW, the reason they only work for a short period of time is the satellite pay broadcasters changes the encryption algorithm regularly.
