Here is another tip for folks using a rotary vane (oil filled) vacuum pump. These would include the 2 HF models frequently purchased.
Be sure you DO NOT turn off your vacuum pump while under vacuum. Always start your pump without vacuum and then release the vacuum before turning off the pump. If you turn it off under vacuum, your pump will likely spit out oil the next time you start it up and can cause wear and premature failure of your pump.
Also, be sure to change the oil frequently and keep the oil level to the mark. The oil acts like a filter for anything in the air sucked out of your chamber and it will concentrate in the oil and contaminate it. Also, if the level gets low, you will not be getting maximum vacuum.
