I began building a shop and buying tools about 5 years before retiring, and now I'm working in it for a few hours nearly every day. I first completed some woodwork and mouldings for the house. Then I taught myself how to carve - which led to needing more tools. My first several carvings have been life-sized birds. More recently, I began turning bowls, candlesticks, and my favorite, pens and pencils. In the first few weeks, I went totally crazy, turning over 100 fairly simple pens that I took to a family reunion and gave them all away. Now, I'm trying some higher-end pen kits and exotic blanks, but they can get expensive in a hurry. I enjoy the learning process and keep trying to challenge myself.

Welcome to the IAP and the "vortex" of woodturning!!!
It sounds like you have already encountered the constant need for new tools - well, turning is no different.
Where in TX are you located? I'm in San Antonio.
Keep us posted.
