Last Saturday I met with Ken Bandoly from Shed Life to transfer SOS stabilizing resin over to McKenzie Penworks. He spent quite a few years getting the formula to where it is, and we're happy to keep the product alive for those that love using it. We're certainly not looking to take over the world of stabilizing, but really just keeping an alternative on the market for those looking for the properties you get from wood stabilized with the SOS product.

For now, we've asked the partners to that sell SOS to list it as out of stock. Ken only had a few gallons left of the base resin so we're establishing an account with the supplier and working on getting an ETA for putting our first order in. Once we have the logistics of getting the resin in we'll be adding it to the website and reaching out to our resellers, etc to offer it if they are interested.

It's a big deal when you let go of the product you've spent years working on so we certainly appreciate Ken entrusting his baby to us. More to come as I wrap my head around the chemistry, get some documentation going, and finalize the order for fresh resin!

Ken is a great guy and innovator. I still have a few of his products that need turning and/or segmenting. I'm sure that Tim will do a great job making sure Ken's SOS product retains the quality Ken worked hard to maintain.

Indeed... super smart and nice fella. He's just burned out on the business side (can't say I blame him) and when he asked if we'd like to be the ones to carry on with SOS I couldn't say no. Honestly the biggest concern was whether or not we could even fit the giant tote of resin in the shop. Turns out it JUST fits inside the main roll up door.

Never heard of this resin how does price compare with the competitor
Pretty much dead nuts the same... It's a different resin base at the core of the product. Very low foam, awesome penetration, but it's less plastic like when cured. The wood is still completely stabilized but it's a bit more wood like than the other option. Some prefer that, some are looking for the harder cure that they can polish without a top coat. I'd never knock the other product because it's awesome too and we use it in the shop for certain applications :)
