There have been a lot of label casting questions on here lately but I have not found an answer to my problem. I made an almost beautiful cuban cigar band pen that I showed on the board a few months ago and since then I have been trying to perfect it. At that time I did not have a pressure pot and now I do but I seem to be having more problems casting with pressure then without.

Here is the biggest problem I am having that I am hoping that someone can help me with:

I make standoffs by gluing a small cork to an off-cut of a pen blank and then stick the cork into my pen tubes so that no resin can get into the tubes, or at least thats what I was hoping that it would do. almost every time I cast under pressure the resin is somehow getting into the tubes and then I have a tube filled with hard resin and BB's :) I am only casting at 14PSI

Does anyone know why my tubes are filling up with resin? I thought that a small amount of pressure was needed in order to prevent air bubbles in the cast?

Any help is appreciated.

Hmm. that is a good question... although I cannot answer definitely what the issue is (because I"V NEVER cast before) but maybe the "cork" plugs you are using are too porous (SP)?? allowing too much air to escape leading to it filling up with resin?

Seems I read something about this on here or another forum... they ended up using rubber plugs CA'd to the ends...

Just a thought..

I do CA my corks, but also for insurance use a mold release compound that I swab with a Q-tip on the inside of the tubes. If I do get resin inside which does happen on occasion, I can usually easily break it away from the tube.
