Heard on the news last night about an event down on the border. Two officers noticed a van coming across in an area known where drug smugglers cross. They attempted to stop the van. The driver resisted, jumped out and was runnig off. The officers fired on the suspect. The van had 750 lbs of marijuana. Turns out one of the shots hit the guy in the butt. He received treatment (at our tax expense) and is suing the US government for $5 million. The two agents have started 11 and 12 year sentences for assault and what not.
How stupid is that? Such a great reward for doing their job.

OMG! What is this country coming to??????????? If you live as close to the borber as we do you can totally understand the actions of ANY border patrol agent. It is a hazardous, thankless job and they don't get paid enough. I don't think any of our peace officers, border patrol, fire fighters or military get paid enough but that's another soapbox. JMHO!

I better go take more happy meds. today[:D][:D][:D][:D]

i think it is a bunch of B.S. that the agents got into any trouble. If these guys ran from them they should be shot. I have not read the whole story of the incident yet.
but if one of us did that to a local cop and the cop shot you. The cop would of be given a medal for a good clean shot and Major drug bust.

I will keep my opinion of the boarder to myself since most people don't like my solution to the problem.

here is a petion that you can sign that is asking for the President to pardon the border agents.

The problem I see coming now is the officers are going to be afraid to do their job properly and when they need to fire they won't. Before it is over an officer will lose their life over being afraid to do the right thing, which is a shame that our justice system has come to that.

That's why they should shoot to kill these people. Same goes for if anybody tries to break into my home. I will not just wound them. They will leave my home in a body bag.

My belief is that anyone who comes into my house after dark has done so through a locked window or door. If that's the case, you are dangerous. "Never mind the dog, beware of the owner"

When my son shows up from college unexpected at night, he calls ahead of time to announce because he knows better than to sneak in. I have received more than one call early in the morning saying "dad I'm coming in, don't shoot". He receives the same notice from me.

Shooting policy's are different from state to state and city to city. A general rule of thumb is a police officer can't use deadly force unless he/she is in fear of death or great bodily harm to himself/herself or another person. Many states will allow a police officer to shoot a fleeing felon. Department policy may restrict a officer to use deadly force on a fleeing felon only when the officer has enough knowledge that the suspect is a contuning threat (crime against person rather than property crimes)to the community. I think that the officers violated the border patrols shooting policy. That would be a big factor in the conviction. Another factor is the criminal justice system holds police officers to higher standards than the gereral public.
I don't agree with the sentance. The sentance does not fit the crime.
Whenever the FBI gets involved, things get out of hand. Take it from one who knows (Rodney King case), if an FBI agent askes to talk to you, request a lawyer. Never trust the FBI to be fair.
And I will sign the petition.

I guess I'll be the jerk who goes against the tide:

He wouldn’t be suing anyone if there weren’t 1000 attorneys foaming at the mouth for a buck.

Is it proper to shoot a suspect fleeing on foot? "Resisting arrest" could be nothing more than pulling his arm away from the cops and running. Chase him down, sic the dogs on him, whatever. Shoot to kill? Sounds a little rash.

Did the guy want to be a mule? I cant help but to wonder if someone said "Drive this near half ton of pot to the US or I'll kill your family." Considering he didn’t try and shoot it out with the cops and just ran off scared, who knows.

The punishment of the cops is completely idiotic but again, if there weren’t some bottom feeding prosecutor waiting for his big break, it may not have turned out like this.

The problem with our countries is that the judges and lawyers are not held accountable to anyone. I think my Father said it best, we line up all the judges and lawyers, shoot every second one, and tell the others that if they don't start doing their jobs which is protecting civilization not the criminals, then we will finish the job. The laws were designed to protect the inocent, but somewhere along the way the judges and lawyers thought that the laws should protect the criminal and to hell with the inocent. The best thing that could happen to a judge or a lawyer is that one of the criminals they let off, comes to pay them the same sort of visit they paid their victims in the middle of the night.

I originally thought that these guys were getting shafted, but having just seen an interview with the prosecuting atty. I have to change my mind and disagree.

It appears that they were both very well trained, knew the proper procedures to follow...not to shoot at fleeing suspects who were not a threat to your safety...screwed up the arrest...then proceeded to cover up the incident instead of calling it in and letting the chips fall.

Probably would have lost their jobs...but might not be in the can for the coverup.

PS I agree that the illegals need to be stopped but it appears that these guys knew better.

Knew better than what? What would happen to any US citizen running from a truck load of pot. You might not get shot but your jail time would be astounding. These people are here illegally and should spend time in that jail in the desert. Our Border Patrol should be instructed to shoot anything coming north accross the border. I've several gator holes lined up. Forget the government and forget the law. This is one job the general public needs to tend to themselves.[:(!][}:)][:(!][}:)][:(!][:(!]

Wow! I've been called radical! OK, and a few other names as well; but I don't feel so lonely anymore..... LOL![:p][}:)] I'm not sure that I would go as far as some of you guys in either direction; but I can appreciate your feelings of frustration with some of the happenings in the arenas of the justice system and media circuses. I can not offer any better solution to the problems but anarchy is not a good long term solution. Short term? Maybe! [}:)]

Just so you don't think all the idiotic cases are out west let me tell about a local issue in the news now. A little over a year ago a local 14-year-old hoodlum beat his grandmother (whom he lived with) into a coma and stole her car. He had previously been arrested for grand theft and also on possesion of a firearm. This being his third felony he was placed in one of our "boot camps", or juvenile detention center, at the request of the grandmother. Mom did not want to raise him and dad wasn't even around at the time.

One his first day there he refused to cooperate so the boot camp instructors got a little rough with him, and he passed out. He later passed away in the hospital. First autopsy showed it was due to stress and an undocumented pre-existing disease. The mom got a lawyer and forced a second autopsy, which showed he suffocated. The gutless new governor publicly said that $30,000,000 of the taxpayers money was not enough to compensate the family for the death of their fine son, and closed all the boot camps so now juvies have no where to go really.

The civil case is now asking $40m and on the criminal side of the case all seven guards on duty that day, plus the nurse present, have been arrested on manslaughter charges. They now face up to 30 years in prison and some were not even in the area where the boy collapsed.

I guess you can sense how I feel about this from my description. I agree that the guards may have crossed the line and should face discipline charges, but this whole thing has gotten out of hand.

NAACP wants everyone inlvolved from the Sherrif to the Governor arrested, I suggest they start with the boy's parents that failed to raise him. Now you know why I listen to rock-n-roll in the shop and not local talk radio.
