I just bought some pen blanks that came coated in anchorseal. I would imagine that they are still green. If I leave the AS on them, will they dry out? If not, how do I get the stuff off them and dry them without checking? they are all exactly 3/4 x 3/4 x about 5 1/2 or so, so not much room for shrinkage, etc. How long should they take to dry?

Sometimes I coat my blanks with AS just to show figure and to protect them from extreme humidity swings that can destroy some burls. If they are green (I would check with your supplyer) Totally covered they will take a real long time to dry. I would scrape the 4 sides with a cabinet scraper to remove most of the wax, so that they may dry.

Stack them so they get air---I built little log cabin piles.
At least 90 days to get rid of most of the water---some blanks can take a real long time to dry. Do not stack them in sunlight---real big no no.

If you are going to use one of the "fast dry" techniques (soak in alcohol, microwave, boil and leave in shavings)or the like, wash the anchorseal off with detergent and water. Otherise, as above. Expect some warping and/or twisting. Best confidence in stable moisture is to weigh the blanks and record the weights. When weight quits changing at about 2 week intervals you are getting there. Weighing is part of the microwave drying process too.
