It's still woodworking, bowl turning that is.

I am considering investing in a bowl saving device for bowls from 4" up to and including 16".

What would you recommend and a bit as to why you like that particular device. Cost is not a major factor, but durability and safety definitly enter into the equation.

Thanks for your input on this matter.

The Woodcut system is extremely easy to use, as is the Oneway system. The McNaughton system is much more versatile because the shape of the bowl is not restricted. Because of the versatility, I went with the McNaughton system. After the initial learning curve, it is quite easy to use.

I have the McNaughton. As Stan mentioned it is the most versatile, but it also has the steepest learning curve. A curve I still find myself on

I'm using it on a 1 1/2hp jet 1642. I have to put the belt on the lowest setting, but it seems to handle the torque without any problems.

I did a review of my research on the pros and cons of three systems on my blog.

Fred . . . I've been wondering the same thing. There is a ton of information and lots of reviews all over the web. Just do a search for "Bowl Saver Reviews". Get yourself a big cup of coffee. There is a lot of interesting reading. (If you happen to come across information regarding an 18 inch swing, please let me know.)

Thanks to you all for the input. I stayed up late last night and read until my eyes slammed shut on me.

I am still torn between the McNaughton and the Woodcut system. Craft Supply has the Woodcut in stock and Woodcraft has the McNaughton.

Oh what a time ... I feel a great need for beer, lots of beer!
