MANY of the pens I sell have a "story". SOME of the stories, I remember, SOME are put into "brochure" form and sold with the product (Not only pens, but peppermills and kaleidoscopes). These "story brochures" add value (read make the price higher) and people can give them as gifts, without having to remember the details.

Since bakelite is expensive, I will be doing a "brochure" for it for MY pens. Dawn has chosen to share a source with ya'all to allow YOU to do the same:
http://www.bakelitemuseum.de/

IF you take the time to RESEARCH your products (as I know MANY already are doing), you will find your $10 pens become worth $25, cause the customer is buying from an "expert" (helps to be OLD here, too - you look more "experienced"). Also the $200 pen becomes worth $275 if it has a brochure and a nice box.

DO what you wish, but Dawn has chosen to share ONE of our tools that have made my pens sell more easily.

Hi,

This may sound a stupid question, but what do you guys mean by a 'brochure' with the pen?

Like a little information card?

cheers

Hi Phil,
I don't use the term "brochure", but on all of my higher end pens, I have a business size card that has a description of the wood and a little about it.

Brochure (bro shoor') a pamphlet, one advertising something.

Accourding to the Websters student dictionary.

I printed a letter sized brochure with directions on care, plating, my guarantee and contact info. These are prestuffed in white small bags all pens sold go into. On special blanks like the bakelite, M3, cactus, I have a separate brochure given at time of sale. These are 1/2 page card stock.

Nice website. What I found intersting was their collection of old bakelite goodies. Some of the oddest things, some of which surprised me that they would have been made from bakelite, but not one fountain pen!
