I know that almost all the American Chestnuts died off when I was a kid back in the 50s. That said, I have a nice one in my back yard that somehow made it through that epidemic. I was back by the tree last week and noticed a bumper crop of Chestnut husks on the ground. I was wondering if anyone would like to try casting them into blanks. If you're familiar with Horse Chestnuts, these husks are about the same size and thickness, but they have thousands of very tiny sharp spines rather that the thicker fleshy spines on the Horse Chestnut. If anyone is interested, let me know and I'll be glad to gather up a box and ship them to you for just cost of shipping. Just thought they might make a different looking blank.
