Amboyna Burl Spalted?

A friend gave this piece of wood and said it was Amboyna Burl,It looks like it has a bunch of spalt in it,have never seen spalted Amboyna before so I thought I'd ask,Thanks.

Its really hard to tell by the photos, but if you cut a piece lets say about 5" x 7/8 x 7/8 and mail it to me, I'll be glad to take it to the local university and get it analized for you.
 
Spalting is defined as "incipient decay" which often causes the wood to change color due to the infiltration of bacteria, fungus, and other organisms that feed on wood fiber. With that in mind, virtually all wood is subject to spalting. I have a piece or two of spalted brown malle burl which was given to me by a dear friend and it is beautiful (and highly valued by me)!
 
Throw some of those voided out pieces in alumilite and you'll be good. Show that piece to anyone else and they'll think it's garbage, but to a penturner that's like gold....:tongue:
