There's about 1'' length of brass epoxied into the cap and barrel.

The Barrel, Cap, Section, and All Of The Screw Threads Were Made By Me On My Manual Metal and Wood Lathes.

I started making non-kit, kit-less, or bespoke (pick one...I don't like either 3 but that is another discussion) a couple of years ago. I still like the look and feel of wood but was concerned about an all wooden fountain pen. I wanted to make a few using some really nice wood. My research uncovered that wooden unlined caps tend to draw the liquid (water I suppose) from the ink in the feed leaving the solids behind. This water movement from the ink to the wood made the fountain pen difficult to write the first time after being capped for awhile. I have since started lining the wooden fountain pens I make with a liner. I use Acrylic Acetate but others use ebonite. The AA works great for me at a fraction of the cost.

Never knew that about the ink. If it makes a difference, I soaked the insides of the barrel and cap with CA.
