Well I did it, the first real table saw accident. I did not clear my out-feed table and had one of the pieces I was cutting kick back at me.

6X12X1 white oak spun off the top of the blade and kicked back into my gut. I lucked out as I did not lose any fingers in the process. Dave came by to make sure I was OK since SWMBO was not home. (Thanks again Dave!) I went to see the doc today as I am having a hard time with using my stomach muscles. Well I have minor internal bleeding and a major bruise to the ab's. But I do get to spent some time in vicoden land!

Dang, John, I'm glad it wasn't worse. Same thing happened to me last year (w/o the internal bleeding). I didn't have the blade quite high enough. No I stand as much to the side as I can in case I get stupid again.

Lesson for all!! Stand to the side!! Glad you weren't injured more seriously, it only takes a second with out thinking that can cause some real serious damage.

Ouch, I'm glad it didn't impale you. Okay folks, safety standdown time. Let's all think about safety for the next hour; review lessons learned; and so forth. [B)]

Glad it didn't cause more serious damage. The same thing happend to my brother. He usually wears a leather apron when using the table saw, but wasn't wearing it when this happened. He had a relatively small cut on his abdomen. He didn't go see a doctor, but cleaned it up himself and put NeoSporin on it. Even so, it got infected and he was in a real mess for a week or so.

I've always felt the safest course of action around any power tool was to assume the worst that could happen and take common sense measures to prevent injury. So far, so good!

Hope your recovery is swift.

Saw stop would not have done anything with this one as no part of my body came in contact with the saw. I was very lucky that it was such a minor injury. A couple of inches higher and it would have been broke ribs.

The part I still find humorious is how in that fraction of a second before it spun back, I felt the bump with the outfeed table, then realized that I was going to have a kickback. It seemed like forever then BAM!

Thanks for the good words all. I will post a pic of the offending project when the finish dries.

I guess your in the "roll out of bed" group now. Glad it wasn't worse.[:)]

I hate using my table saw although it is necessary. I use my bandsaw a bunch now, but I'm still cautious of that wicked looking blade. I hate springing leaks![:(]

Good to hear that you are okay. Now I know why Curtis gave me a lesson on tablesaw safety.

BTW, I am still waiting for your "list". [;)]

Reminds me of a question my ole' grandpappy used to ask me often.....

How stupid is you boy! [;)][;)]

I'm glad you are ok and I'll bet you will have a newfound respect for table saw safety.

Glad it wasn't worse. And, I can accurately say I will never be hurt by a table saw since I don't even have the space for one.[:D]

I was actually kidding about the Saw Stop. All my unpleasant experiences with a table saw have been similar to yours. Just dumb luck nothing serious happened to me. I eventually figured out my full attention was needed at all times. Again I'm glad you are doing well.

I cringe at table saw accedents.
All it taks is a moment of lazyness or laps in concentration and BAM.
I lost my finger a couple of years ago to a table saw.
I'm just glad your ok.
