This is a turning related question but not specific to pen turning. I've only used PR for casting, and not alumilite, so I thought I'd pass the question along here. My father wants to experiment with resin as as accent to his segmented hollow forms and boxes. To see if he likes it, he bought alumilite regular (light tan) from a local (local being about 3 hours away during an infrequent trip to the city - he is rural).

What can he use with the resin he already has to get some intense color added to it?

The following were his comments to me so far:

"Was working with casting resin and coloring today. The Pearlex did color my resin but not an intense color. Tried the Mixol and it was very intense with only a drop or so, however when it started to cure, it foamed up and was completely full of air bubbles and totally unusable."

Trans-tint works but you need to use quite a bit and EXPERIMENT. Oil based paints also work but the best is the alumilite dyes.

I get phenomenal results with alumilite clear, alumilite dyes, alumni dust, pearl ex mica and coastal scents mica powders. I think the tan color of the alumilite regular might be impeding the intensity of the color. Just my guess.
