Hey guys and gals, I was wondering if you absolutely need a pressure pot to cast some alumilite blanks. I can understand if I was going to cast objects, but I'm looking to just do some plain old different color blends. Thanks in advance for any info.

If you plan on using Alumilite Regular, whether tan or black, or Alumilite White, there is no need for a pressure pot. If you are going to use Clear, or Water Clear, a pressure pot is necessary. I have seen a few posts where people claim to be able to use Clear or Water Clear without the pressure pot, but I have never seen it done successfully.

if you don't want your blanks to be FULL of air bubbles, no matter which type of alumilite you use, you'll need to cast under pressure. The difference between casting objects in resin and just the resin is the amount of pressure used. When I've done strictly colors 40psi is plenty. If I were to do burl cap or whatever I personally would increase to 60-70psi. Just be sure your pressure pot is rated for whatever pressure you plan on using.

Dave,

If you're willing to run across the lake, you are more than welcome to stop by and cast your blanks with my pot. I'm in Bush, just north east of Covington.

Thanks for all the info. Guys like Jonathan Brooks have me motivated to try my hand at casting. Ron, thank you so much for the invite. Maybe sometime we could get together and possibly let me pick your brain on the subject. Thanks again fellas.

Dave, you're welcome to call any time, 318-419-8196. Hope you have a small pick, as I've only been turning a short time. I was lucky enough to pick up two Binks 2 gallon pots last week for $60, I've invested about $40 in parts and have one functional so far, with the second one on the way.
