In the "for whatever it's worth" category: I was trying my hand at a 4-strand Celtic knot the other day using maple and ziricote. I was doing the table saw work outside my garage (cool new portable Rigid table saw!), so I didn't wear a dust mask. That night, sticky lump in my throat, trouble sleeping. Next day, head plugged up, scratchy throat, sneezing, watery eyes. Pretty much the same today, but I think it might be starting to get better. From what I've read, Ziricote is not considered toxic, but it sure hammered me. That was my first Celtic knot, and my first allergic reaction to wood dust. To add insult to injury, the knot didn't turn out well either.

Well, just be grateful you didn't end up in the er on a VENT!! Next time wear that mask and prevent stress!! We all know better but fail to take that extra moment to do what is right........next time could be death! But it could have been a fluke too- some people are allergic to cod liver oil............and listen to the nurse or we have thermometers hahahaha worse....enemas............

Keith, sounds to me like you are becomming "sensitized" to the wood. If that is the case it will only get worse with each exposure. Your doctor can 'test' you for being allergic or if you are just developing a sensitivity to Ziricote.

Notsure if you used CA glue as well but it can be quite toxic. Forensic officers use CA to enhance ridge patterns when trying to lift finger prints... they are told the fumes are poisonous and to work in a ventilated area or with a mask.
