Was in Big Bear last weekend, went to some yard sales. Found one of those hand made clocks from wood ($3).......hmmmmmmmm fix it or make pen blanks? At another yard sale we found a big slab of wood someone had started to make a coffee table, it's about 5'x 3' .....hmmmmmmmm finish it or make pen blanks? Decisions, decisions......

cut 'em up! I got several redwood slabs that made beautiful blanks. If you want to swap some of yours for variety, let me know!

BTW they wanted $20 for the table slab and I got them down to $10. It was hard not to show my excitement, had to wait till we got back in the truck[:D]

Congratulations on the find and good buy! I went to a twice a month flea market in Nagoya last week (for the first time) and stayed until closing. Just before closing time I went to a couple of places that had odds and ends jewelry or what-nots on good looking old wood displays. I bought three pieces, one each from different vendors for about $10 - $15 each. One turned out to be what looks like amboyna burl. Another is very dark but smells something like a fir when cut. It is not as dark as my persimmon but the fellow said it was a Japanese ebony wood. I also got a fir tree burl that was very wormy.

All in all, I was pleased. There is some good pen wood at flea markets and garage/yard sales!

Nope but sure is purdy[8D] Gonna try and figure it out!

Both pieces are about 3" thick too.
