Hey everyone, I was just checking through youtube for video's on ca finishes and I came accross this one. This is Alex, A member of IAP who turns pens to earn money for college. He seems to be a cool kid with a good head on his shoulders. His pen turning skills are great as well.

Just wanted to point this video out, and thought he deserved some good praises on his work and his future intensions.

Good Job Buddy!

Thats was real cool, my kid would have just said he couldn't do his homework and watched TV....LOL
Brian, you said he is member here, do you know his screen name?

By the way Neil, Pen on there way to you in the morning for the troops. I sent 4 and when I could make a little money, I will send more. The VA has ongoing thing with losing or not issuing my checks.. LOL

I've been there brother. They will eventually get the system working right, I have faith in that.
There is no rush on the pens, I send a package out every 6-8 weeks and this months box was packed full and the next box is filling up quickly also, but thank you for sending them, they are greatly appreciated as you know.

Very Cool! With woodworking and video making skills like that, he should make an instructional video. You can only sell a pen once, who knows how many times you can sell a video.

Color me impressed. I find with my friends that it's hard enough for them to get their kids to do anything, let alone turn pens for college.

Way to go, Alex! What an interesting mind you must have to want to do and to be able to do these things at the age of twelve.

Keep up the great things that you are doing now and let your mind continue to drive you onward. Life is not always for play, but instead, it is for continious learning and striving to do the best that you can do ... always!

I venture to think that by the age of twenty-five you will be the at the top of the line and in great demand by the best of the best in the world. Keep your eyes wide open and your brain active and learn all you can ... Congratulations on your endeavors to better yourself.

BTW, thanks Brian for the link to the excellent video. I also think this video is one of the better ones for showing how the Celtic knots are executed. Maybe Alex can add it to the archives as a future referrence for others to view. I vote for that to happen!

Just watched those 3 movies this past week. Very cool vid! But he needs a car chase scene in his video :D.

Thanks everyone. I really enjoyed making that video. It wasn't supposed to be a "how to" video, it was for the PTA reflections contest at my school. The theme this year was "WOW".

I was also in a local newspaper this week. http://www.southwestwakenews.com/home/story/1091.html The reporter heard about a woodworking contest I entered in Raleigh, NC. I won 1st, 2nd, 3rd and best in class for the youth division.

My next video will be a "how to" on the aluminum and walnut Celtic knot pen that won the contest.

Oh, by the way, my dad wants you all to stop saying how great our shop is. We're trying to convince my mom we need more equipment. alex

Great video Alex! nice pen and a well put together presentation. By the way, that shop sucks! Way to EMPTY and the tools are all in the stone age! Update man! (did that help?)

Alex you should be very proud of youself. You are eons ahead of me when I was 12. I bet your parents are very proud of your abilities, good job mom and dad. Keep up the great work.

alex its wonderful to see young people with drive and focus your pens for college is insperational you should be proud of yourself and also proud of your parents it is apperent that thay have instilled some great things in you, I have 2 young boys i hope at age 12 are as driven and focused as you are

Alex,
I dont even know you an I am proud of you! That is a great video and you are very lucky to have parents teaching you such valuable life lessons. I checked out your site and had some issues seeing photos, but it is really well done. I enjoyed looking at your stuff.
One problem, though...the shop looks empty and too clean, you shoiuld really be allowed to be a kid and mess it up and fill in those empty spaces. Since Mom and Dad wont have to pay for college, they could at least fill the shop with more equipment.
