I heard from Tom around noon Eastern time today. I couldn't update this sooner since my gov't computer got tired of how much time I spend here and blocked the site!! [B)]

Tom said that the surgery went very well and that all preliminary results were good. Once they know for sure that the lymph nodes taken from her neck are clear they can relax a bit. From personal experience, I can tell you that hearing that there is no cancer in your lymph nodes is a good piece of news.

Keep up your thoughts and prayers for a full recovery.

Thanks for the update Cav. Sounds like things are "as good as possible" at this point.

Sorry to hear of your problem, let's see, that would mean that the government job you have actually expects you to WORK a while???? Did you explain to them that that would make you the ONLY government employee expected to work??

Of course, if they took a look at Lou's recent debacle and determined that this site borders on Porn, it's hard to argue with that!!!

Again, Thanks for the update Cav, our prayers remain with Tom and his "Better half"!!

Ed, I think the problem with gov't computers is that "work" is considered a four letter word! Now as to Lou, with all this talk about hardwood going on, no wonder the poor computer got confused![:0]

Back to a serious note, it was good to hear Tom's voice today. He sounded tired but relieved. He needs our thoughts and prayers just as much as Kelly.

So far it sounds good. Now if we hear that the lymph nodes are clear one more major hurdle will be behind them.I know when we went through this with Diane knowing it hadn'd spread was a big relief.

Cav, Thanks for the update. I hope that the next news will be equally good. I hope that all of our notes to them will lift their spirits and keep them on the positive side. Thanks again.

The news is certainly welcome. Here's hoping we hear the "all clear" before too long! And as for the reference to this tired old Bluesman, trust me, the hardwood could hardly be considered porn. [8D]

Hi all, this is hard to write as I sit here and look at Kelly. The doctor told me they removed a section of her tongue the size of 2 silver dollars side by side, oval shaped. The thickness was just under 2 of them stacked up except one area that the nerve on that side of the tongue. It was running through the tumor, I do not know if they cut that nerve and will ask tomorrow. She stitched up the front part of her tongue and put a mesh on the back part. The doctor did not want to stitch it down to the bottom of her mouth due to it would roll her tongue and misshape it more. She also opted to not do a skin graft, the mesh will allow cells to grow into it and hopefully give the tongue a little of its shape back. However, it does not always work in the mouth.

Her neck the incision was started behind the ear and goes about 3/4 of the way down her neck and then across stopping in the middle. This is the hardest thing to see and when she sees it I do not know what her reaction will be. She has a drainage tube from her neck, I am not sure how long it will remain.

Sorry if this was too graphic.

She is doing good and the doctor was pleased. We will find out next week on the lymph nodes. Right now it is just her sleeping and me keeping an eye on her.

Thank you all...btw the letters are most likely still with the service that they go to. I was told they would try to get them up here tonight or she would receive them tomorrow.

Tom,

Keep in mind, the body HEALS!!! The person you love is inside there and SHE needs to know your feelings have NOT changed.

Words are SO weak in times like these, put your faith in YOUR God and your LOVE in HER heart - be strong, HE will help.

Tom, scars always strike a jarring note. Like Ed said, that is just on the surface. I have a feeling the Kelly you love goes far deeper than that!

Keep us posted, and call 24/7 if you need an ear. I'll take my cell phone to bed with me.

Tom,

Ed and Cav are right.

I watched my bride through many days of ICU after major surgery. I know where you are right now.

LOVE and FAITH will help you see beyond the present to the future you have together. Kelly will see herself through the love in your eyes, not the reflection in the mirror.

Stay strong. You have many friends here praying for you.

Tim

Tom - I'm rarely sick, but when I am generally something has to be cut out. Last year it was thyroid and 2 parathyroid glands. The surgery was mid-August 2007. After having a 4-inch slice across my throat, this is all that remains.

Trust in vitamin E oil. It really helps minimize scarring. And for those of you who must ask, NO, there is no makeup or re-touching. [8D]

airrat, may god bless you & look over both of you, those people at mdadnderson are the best it the world!! (my wife works for St.Luke's and we we both swear to it!!) You're in great hands!!!!!!

Thanks for the Update Tom,,,,,,

Scars are a sign of surviving....a badge of honour if you like, some one else said it best, The Kelly You Love is deeper than we all know...

Good news, day by day:)

Kelly is off O2 today. She is feeling a little better and spoke a few words. Her neck is tender and throat is sore. She is going to try to walk around (more then just the couple feet to the bathroom) soon.

She just received 2 of the Net Notes sent. Thank you Roy (Oklahoman) and Mith. I think everyone else's (mine included) was sent too early. The person that delivered these said that was it.

Tom-
from family experience, buy her a beautiful scarf. My Mom and Grandmother went through chemo and were terribly worried about appearances, both were thrilled with the scarves and wraps they wore on their heads (and Grandmother's neck to cover her "pigtail" IV line). It will help her to not see the reminders every time she sees a reflection. Most importantly, keep reminding her how beautiful she is to you.

Just returned from a short visit with Tom and Kelley. She appears to be doing great. She looks great for just having surgery yesterday. She said she sounds funny when she talks, but to me she just sounded a little horse. They said she will probably get to go home tomorrow, but will be back at MDA Monday to have the stitches removed.

Glad to hear she is doing so good shortly after the operation, continue to get well fast and hope all is ok! Just saw we do share the same birthday.....:Dnot the year, though!;)

Hi, all.. Kelly here (mrs airrat).

Thank you all for your prayers and well-wishes. The messages that you sent me were great, too. I've felt very blessed to have so many people thinking of me.

I'm doing pretty well today. I've been up and around some, talking some, and I've been upgraded from the liquid diet to soft foods. I'm feeling ok, but I'm in pretty high spirits.

Thank you again for all the wishes and prayers. They've been deeply appreciated.

Kelly

Woo Hoo, I just got to talk to Tom and Kelly both!! Kelly sounds great; it is hard to believe she just went through surgery! They are still waiting for results to some tests, so keep the prayers and good wishes in high gear.

Another update from Tom and Kelly. Kelly had a bit of a rough day, but is doing better this evening. She and Tom and staying with friends and taking things one day at a time.

Kelly sounds great when she talks. So, all in all, things are going well.

Bill,
Thanks for the update. I'm sure all appreciate the update and continue to hold Tom and Kelly in our hearts and prayers. Kemah is a great place to relax and enjoy the bay and the great weather here in the Clear Lake area. All of God's beauty in one place.

Hi all sorry for not keeping up on posts. Kelly is doing good. As William found out yesterday was a little rough, he called while we were in the ER at MD Anderson. Kelly's neck was hurting her where the drain tube was, we were not sure if it was coming out, clogged, infected or what. Her pain meds were not working so we took her in. The doctor, who looked all of 16 (almost asked for proof of age) said it looked ok and decided to call our doctor and see if he could go ahead and remove the drain tube.

He ended up removing it and Kelly felt 100 times better. About now is when William called us and I had Kelly talk to him to reassure she was doing good. Great timing LOL

We are back at Bud and Jill's in Kemah. They are 2 of the nicest people ever, Jill has been fighting cancer since 32. This hits so close to home for her she has cried numerous times, but she still has gone out of her way to make Kelly comfortable. I just hope she does not tire herself too much.

We go see the doctors again tomorrow and hope the pathology is back on the lymph nodes. After that is speech therapy, William and Mannie can tell you she has a slight lisp and some slurring. Hopefully to get better as the swelling goes down. The scar on her neck is going to take some time to disappear but hopefully it will be hidden enough. Kelly says she will post something for you all later.
Thanks again all
Tom and Kelly
