Do we have any other cyclists on this site? The reason I'm posting here is because we use different muscles in different ways than some folks! I had a spectacular run in with a sidewalk last night on my way home from work, and now my shoulders, elbows and thumbs are giving me fits. Oh, and the knee, but that's not turning related. Anyone got any ideas on things to avoid/do so I can get back to the lathe?:(

Valerie,

Sorry to hear about your pavement surfing, but glad it wasn't worse. I've found the best things for road rash is a good cleaning, plenty of neosporin, and those liquid spray-on bandages or clear breathable ones (second skin?). I hope you were wearing your helmet.

If you are talking muscle soreness or stiffness, and you have an asian herbal store thereabouts, go get something called "dit da jow". It's a topical concoction (NOT for broken skin) that will do wonders. Just don't ask what's in it, and try not to be concerned about all the cats that are following you around... ;)

Lots of muscle stiffness! And yes, I was wearing my helmet! Along with my rear view mirros, gloves and lights. I'll see if I can track that stuff down, thanks!

I got checked out informally by an athletic trainer and a PT--they think it's just bruises, maybe ajammed shoulder, but no tears, so have reasonable hope that I don't need surgery! Which is wonderful since I am going to a week long class at the Appalachian Center for Crafts in a couple of weeks. :D
