A week ago I posted about falling while skating with my daughter.

Most of the pain from that fall went away in a day or two, as it should. But some, up near the liver, hung around. Didn't get better, didn't get worse. Scared me a bit so I went to the Dr yesterday.

After much poking and prodding, he determined I had bruised the rib wall. Whew. Hurts, but I can deal with that (especially with the percocet he gave me). I was worried about a bruised liver or some other organ damage.

I got some good news too! 4 years ago I weighed 245lbs. With no real attempt to lose weight, just dropping sugar and corn syrup when I can, I've been losing weight as told by all my baggy clothes. Especially the past 6 months.

Well, the Dr weighed me and said I weigh 202lbs. Sweet! That gives me a BMI of 27. Still high, but not bad. My target BMI has been 25. Looks like patience and keepin' on keepin' on will get me there.

Awesome!

Congrats and way to go!! Not easy to pass up those sweets you've been taking in for so long. Glad you didn't hurt anything worse.

Sugar and corn syrup. Hmmm. I might start paying attention to those items.
I understand the pain associated with bruising the rib cage. Sheeeeesh, that is painful. Your mind starts playing tricks on you making it seem like it is the liver, just as you said.

What I've done is dodge corn syrup whenever possible. It's hard when even bread is loaded with it nowadays, but just making the effort helps. Cane sugar only when necessary. I use agave nectar for my coffee at home, and honey for pancakes.

Little stuff like that and you don't even notice you're losing weight until your pants fall off!

well done sir! keep up the healthy diet, and my suggestion is that when you get to what you believe is a satisfactory weight, start running a mile or two (or jogging) every day. cardio is always a good thing if your healthy enough. im 16 and starting XC conditioning in a week ill be running 10 miles a day, everyday. ya I know, but i plan on living forever haha:biggrin:

Bad knees and feet from surfing for decades. Can't run any more. But I've been experimenting with surge training lately (20 sec on, 20 sec off, etc). I like the little bit of a rush I get from that. Just pushups or something.

An article I read recommends swimming as the best work out, as you will use over 90% of your muscles at the pool. Very low impact for bad joints and bones. And summer is here.

ROFLFAO :biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

(so to speak)

Don; A Chest Wrap (aka large Ace bandage) will help with the pain.

I like to ski and once fell and my ski pole just went between two of my ribs and sprained / strained the muscles that connect the ribs. Hurt every time I breathed and since I am rather fond of breathing I had to keep doing it. The doctor tried to be understanding. "If you had broken the rib, it would hurt less".

Skiers carry ski poles so they always have something hard and sharp to fall on!

Don, Sounds like what I did about three weeks ago. I never went to the doctor though but it was much slower than usual in healing. pain stuck around for almost two full weeks. But when it was done it quit in a hurry.

Congrats on the weight loss.

Glad to hear you only bruised your rib cage. I've also given up corn syrup, but I also gave up white flour products and it has really made a difference. 50 lbs so far, I use Stevia Plus instead of sugar because your body doesn't raise it's blood sugar like other things. I also have a bad knee and do water walking, which doesn't have any impact on joints. Keep up the good work.

I've several different preparations of stevia and just can't take the taste.

I've found Maximized Living to be a good guide to what foods to avoid. I pretty much don't eat vegetable oils anymore either. Olive oil, coconut oil, grapeseed oil, butter, and occasionally peanut and almond oils are what I use now. Margarine is BAD. Butter is good! Go figure!

Here's something kinda cool: Use applesauce instead of oil when baking a cake. If it calls for a quarter cup of oil, use half a cup of applesauce instead. The cake becomes absolute fluff! And tastes great!

(especially with the percocet he gave me)

Percocet - breakfast pill. Messed my back up in my early 20's and they told me it would likely get better by the time I was 60 - they lied. So now it's one percocet for breakfast and most days that's it. Once I get moving I'm usually ok for the rest of the day. Except for times like now. Trying to rebuild the kitchen, just had a new weeping bed for the septic system installed and now I'm trying to get the mess cleaned up so I can plant grass again. Did someone say 2 at a time a few times a day for the next week or so. Doesn't really kill the pain but it does make it so you don't care.
