My PSI Stratus pen developed a whitish bloom on the Tzalam wood under the finish. I believe that my mistake was working in my unconditioned garage/shop at the height of our humidity season. The cheap plastic click mechanism could not handle my attempt to disassemble the pen. Am I correct in thinking that the pen is toast? I would not bother trying to replace the plastic part, and I assume that there is no Schmidt-type metal mechanism that would fit this kit (?).

If the click assembly will come out, you can unscrew the tip and then using a punch that will enter through the now open tip coupler to tap the upper end out of the tube. Then reverse the procedure to get the connector out of the tube.
If the click assembly will not come apart then I dont know how you would remove the ends. There is body holder that is sold but I haven't had much luck with that as you need to grasp the outer surface of the ends to twist them out of the tube and then you end up marring the surfaces of the ends if aren't extremely careful.

Whitish bloom - there are a few causes, fixes, and preventions overall, but to me it starts with humidity and cool temps - i.e. below 70/75°. It helps when we have dryer weather, or heated room in cool weather. When I lived overseas and near the sea coast, in cool weather, I always turned my heater on in the shop about an hour or so before finishing. That solved all of my problems and from then on to now in the USA.
